Me, Andy, and my family were very excited to start our day at HorrorLand theme park—some more than others. My sister stayed close to our parents. She seemed a little scared, which surprised me since she wasn't easily frightened. Tommy, on the other hand, joined Andy and me in exploring the first section of the park, Werewolf Village.
"This is so cool!" I exclaim, waving my arms in the air as I gesture to the entirety of the area that we were in. "What should we get on first?"
Andy looks at a pamphlet that he grabbed from the concierge desk, and I peer over his shoulder. I point to Werewolf Village on the map, and he nods. "Let's see...there are a lot of rides in this area," he said.
I point at the map, intrigued. "Let's check out Zombie Plaza! It's right near here, and there's supposed to be a bunch of stores to shop at."
Andy and Tommy are excited by my decision. We run in the direction of Zombie Plaza, with the rest of my family following close behind. As soon as we reach the area, filled with gift shops and small game booths, the sudden temperature change makes a bead of sweat trickle down my neck. I wipe my forehead.
"It's a lot hotter in this area of the park," I said. Andy nods in agreement. His face was already sweaty. My dad continues to snap pictures, much to the dismay of my siblings, who groan when he makes them stand in front of a billboard showing another HorrorLand attraction known as the BOTTOMLESS CANOE RIDE.
A chirpy woman's voice blares over the park speakers. "Welcome to Zombie Plaza! We hope you have fun exploring this section of the park. Our deals are to DIE for!"
"She seems nice," Mom said with a smile. I agreed with her, walking in the direction of a store that caught my eye. Andy puts his hand in mine, and I smile up at him. So far, we had been enjoying HorrorLand.
We push the heavy glass door open, and a bell chimes above us. There are already a lot of park guests inside the store. I see a teenager chasing his younger sibling up and down the aisles, wearing a purple supervillain mask. A female Horror with black and white hair pulled back into a ponytail and dull yellow eyes sat behind the counter. Her horns were tinted light pink. "Welcome to Make A Face," she greets in a surprisingly cheerful voice.
"I'm going to check out another store. Is that okay with you?" Andy asks.
I nod. "Yeah. Meet me back here, okay?"
"Okay." He presses a quick kiss on my cheek and exits the mask shop. I watch through the shop window as he walks across the plaza to another store called Gloomingdale's. He was probably trying to find a souvenir for his mom.
I begin wandering around the shop, looking at the rows upon rows of hideous masks that lined the walls and shelves. There were zombies, werewolves, vampires, and even a selection of Horror masks. But two masks, in particular, catch my eye. They were painted to look like two young girls. Both masks had curly red hair and realistic features. They looked so out of place, surrounded by all of the disgusting monster masks.
