"What?!" Tommy cried. Andy had filled him in on what I had overheard the two Horrors say, and he was not happy, to say the least. "This is crazy. Are you sure that you heard them correctly?"
"Yes!" I replied.
"Oh man, this isn't good." Tommy began to pace back and forth on the cobblestone path. Families weave past him, giving him strange looks. "What about all of the rides? The Coffin Cruise? The Deadly Doom Slide? The Swim-With-A-Hungry-Shark Ride? I wanted to have the full HorrorLand experience!"
"Come on, you can't be serious!" I cried. "Our sister and these kids are in danger—including us—and you're more worried about riding rides?"
"Admit it, you miss it too," he replied, his head down. I could tell he felt guilty.
"Of course I do. This wasn't how I planned on spending my vacation." I sighed. "As much as I want to enjoy HorrorLand, I can't ignore something as big as this. I want to help the special guests. They need us."
Tommy nods. "I'm sorry. You're right. We're all in danger, and if we can do something about it, we should."
Andy smiled at my older brother. "That's the spirit."
"What are we going to do?" Tommy asked. "The Horrors are already spying on us. We have to be smart about this."
"We have to warn them," I said. "They were on their way to find the carousel. Maybe they went back to Stagger Inn. That's where we thought it may have been close to."
The frightening words I had overheard kept repeating in my mind as we began walking again. I didn't understand this. Why did someone want to hurt the kids or make them disappear? What would they do to us next, if they found out that we were helping the kids?
"Carly Beth, I think we got turned around," I overheard a familiar voice say. The dark-haired girl and her pixie-like friend were just ahead of us. I couldn't help but feel relieved. At least they were okay!
"Sabrina!" I cried, running in their direction. Carly Beth spins around and when she spots me, she smiles. I engulf the two tweens in a tight hug.
"You guys got lost too, huh?" I said with a laugh.
Sabrina nodded. "Yeah. I think the hotel is back there." She pointed in the opposite direction.
I saw small yellow-and-brown cottages up ahead of us. To one side of them, a forest of tall trees loomed, casting a dark shadow on the narrow path we stood on. A sign on a wooden pole read: WELCOME TO WEREWOLF VILLAGE. A smaller sign underneath it read: CURB YOUR WOLF.
"Just great!" Tommy cried. "We're nowhere near the hotel."
Carly Beth let out a gasp. "Wait, Sabrina—look! Is that Billy, Sheena, Angie, and Matt? Going into the village?"
I didn't hesitate to take off running at the mention of my sisters name. A narrow brick path led into the village. The cottage windows were all dark. The tall trees spread a thick shade over everything. I heard wolf howls up ahead.
