I stare out of the window of my dad's big minivan. A barren landscape surrounded us. I imagined a group of vultures swirling in the sky over my head, waiting for the right time to swoop in and enjoy me for dinner. I shudder at my dark thoughts. It surprised me. I normally didn't think that way. Maybe I had been riding for too long. Maybe I was going crazy.

I push those dark thoughts out of my mind, and peer out from my spot in the backseat, staring at the GPS. It showed that we weren't that far away from Zoo Gardens, and I hoped that it was right. Still, I couldn't help but ask the question that annoyed every parent in the world.

"Mom, are we there yet?"

My mom turns to face me. Her long blonde hair was much similar to mine, and we have the same bright green eyes. Nothing like my dad or siblings; they all had dark brown hair and brown eyes. My dad always jokes that I got the better genes in comparison to my brother and sister.

"Juliet, you've been asking that for the past hour, and my answer has been the same," Mom said. "You'll know we're there, when we're there." I nod, and Andy, my boyfriend, nudges my shoulder. He knew I was excited about Zoo Gardens.

I look over to meet his eyes. They were a bright blue, which was a great contrast to his black hair and pale skin. I always thought it made him look mysterious. He smiles at me. "Don't worry. We'll be there soon."

Andy was always so calm. He always knew what to say to make me feel at ease.

We started dating during our sophomore year of high school. Now it was a week after graduation. We planned our senior trip to spend a week at Zoo Gardens. Zoo Gardens was a theme park that was animal themed and had lots of petting zoos. My parents had offered to take us there so we were happy to go as a family—it would be much easier for my mom and dad to take us, anyway, especially since Andy would have to borrow his dad's car.

"Those were mine!" My older brother, Tommy, yells. He argues in the third row of seats with my younger sister, Angie, about snacks that we had brought. They both wanted the last bag of chips, but Tommy ripped them open and ate them before Angie could even stop him. So, that made her pretty upset.

"You suck!" Angie shoves him hard, and he cries out, rubbing his arm. He sticks out his tongue, and that leads to a shoving match.

I roll my eyes at the sound of their annoying bickering. Tommy may have been a year older than me, but he acted like a two-year-old. "Tommy! Angie! Cut that out!" Mom scolds, turning to face them. My siblings glare at one another, and Angie grumbles under her breath. She had just turned thirteen and was always cranky. My dad always said that it was a part of her becoming a teenager. I was just thankful that I wasn't stuck in the third row between them.

As the drive continues, Andy stretches out in the minivan. He leans his head against the window, closing his eyes. His lanky legs rested on my lap, and I looked at my cellphone as he slept. I decide to check my messages, seeing that I had a lot of unread texts from my friends. They were already sending photos of them enjoying their summer vacation, meanwhile we had been driving for hours and still hadn't reached Zoo Gardens!
