I scream, watching as the tree grows closer and closer

I scream, watching as the tree grows closer and closer. The hearse only continued to speed up and didn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon. But a second before we slam into the tree, the wheel is jerked to the left. Andy is thrown back into the seat from the sudden momentum.

Finally, we skid to a stop. I try to catch my breath as the door is flung open by an unseen force, my family quickly scrambling out. I barely make it out of the taxi when the door slams shut behind me. It leaves in a hurry, tires squealing as it kicks up rocks. It's out of sight before I could even give it a second glance.

"That was—what was that?" I gasp. I put my hands on my knees and double over, sucking in deep breaths of air. I was still in shock.

"It had to have been a prank," Dad said. "There's no way that we actually would have crashed. It was just a trick to scare us."

I chew on my bottom lip. I hoped that dad was right.

Andy nodded his head. Then, his eyes widened, and he pointed down to the ground. "Wait! Look!"

I look down to see what he's talking about, and barely visible on the cobblestone path is a set of metal tracks. They looked like railroad tracks. That's how the car was able to drive on its own!

It was just a stupid prank. I started to laugh, not believing my foolishness, and everyone else does too.

"I can't believe you guys were scared!" Tommy said. "It didn't scare me one bit." At least my older brother was back to his normal, childish self.

"Says the guy who screams like a girl," Angie retorted.

I giggle at my sibling's banter, and we approached a stone staircase that led up to the inn. Two sculpted horrors with axes in their grips are on pedestals leading to the entrance. Many screams and roars can be heard from inside, which I assume are most likely used to ramp up the scare factor. The building is similar to a medieval castle, old stones darkened with age. A neon sign in the shape of a coffin reads STAGGER INN, THE OFFICIAL HOTEL OF HORRORLAND!

"At least we made it to the hotel in one piece," Tommy joked.

"Let's just check into our rooms," Mom suggested. She sounded eager, and I was too. I couldn't wait to explore the rest of the park!

We all agree and climb up the stone steps, approaching a large wooden door. The large mahogany door swings open, and we're immediately greeted by the smell of mothballs. Angie covers her nose as we step into the hotel. "Gross. It stinks in here."

"No worse than you do," Tommy told her. She smacks him on the arm.

An oil painting of a scowling man looms above a crackling fireplace. A plaque below it reads Tripp N. Stagger—Founder of Stagger Inn, 1970. A large, winding staircase leads to the upper floors of the hotel. A female Horror carrying a mop and bucket trudges up the stairs, huffing with each breath she takes. The bright yellow apron she wore had multiple stains. Chandeliers covered in spiderwebs hang from the ceiling.
