Chapter 2: Stranded

I sat up and I felt the sand on my hands and feet. My hair felt sandy and wet, and I was sitting on the beach of BedMard Island. I instantly realized where I was and got up to start searching for my boat. I walked along the beach and on my left I saw the nice clear water of the ocean, the nice golden sand beneath my feet and on my right, a thick beautiful forest filled with trees and birds.
I walked for about 15 minutes until I saw a part of my sail on the ground. "Finally!" I said to myself as I followed the trail of broken sail pieces. When I got to the end of the trail, I saw my boat crashed on a big pointy rock. And when I ran toward it, I saw a bird nest on top of the pole where the sail used to be, and the little cooler which I had stored my snacks in, was filled with water, and little fishies.
How long have I been out here? I mean, it doesn't take only a couple hours for a mama bird to make a nest, lay eggs, and make herself feel as if she's in a tree! I looked at the brand new watch I had gotten for my birthday three months ago, and it had a huge crack in it. But still, I could see the date. It had been two days since I crashed. I needed a boat. I needed food, I needed people. But I didn't have any of those things! I mean, what am I gonna do? It's not like a boat is just going to appear out of nowhere! I spoke too soon.
In that very clear water was a small row boat. Wood, sturdy, but the only problem was that it only had one oar. I tried to ride it, but it was impossible. I would go one way, then another, then holes started popping up everywhere on the ground! After an hour of trying, I sat on the beach defeated . I felt like it was a dream. So of course, I started pinching myself. I didn't wake up, but my arms were hurting. I mean, what was I supposed to do? I am trapped on an island, no food, no water, no boat, no people! So I did the most logical thing to do.
After another hour, I had gathered up some rocks, and was able to spell the words HELP in the sand. Then, I attempted to make a shelter. I was able to make something, but it wasn't that strong.
I couldn't sleep that night. I lie awake in the sand with a leaf or two over me. "AWOOOO!" The wolves were howling like crazy! And the leaves kept falling on me so I barely got any sleep. I woke up at 5:37 that morning. I was tired, scared, and lonely. Suddenly, I remembered something. "The Island Of The Blue Dolphin book!" I actually yelled this out loud.
I ran to my broken boat and searched through all the hard wood and planks til I found it. My book! It was perfect. Karana (The girl in the book) was stranded on the island, so I would do what she did! I flipped to chapter 29 and remembered that she used whale bones to make a shelter. I couldn't find any dead whales, so I did the next best thing. I found a cave.
It was dark, and musky. There was moss all over the walls, and it was wet. Usually in movies when they find a cave, there's a bear inside. So I checked inside and out, and I waited to see if any bears came home, but they didn't. This was my cave now. My property. Only mine! Well, at least until someone saves me. The water was far enough away that it wouldn't get me wet while I was sleeping.
It was now 8:09 AM, and I stood in front of the forest. I needed a wooden door so no animals would eat me while I slept. Cause that would not be fun. I stared at the forest for a second. Should, I go in there? Yes! No. After a while of thinking, I grabbed my book and started off towards the forest.
It was very wet and dark, but I kept going because I needed wood. Soon, I found a tree that was sturdy and had thick bark that was easy to pull off. This is perfect! I slowly walked toward it, and I ripped of a piece about the same size as the cave entrance. When the wood came off, I saw many, many, MANY ants. Or some other type of bug! I didn't want to know.
As I started to head back to the cave, I heard wolves. Then I remembered. In the book, Karana finds a pet wolf that was hurt. She healed him and then he would help her hunt. Not thinking about the risk of wolves, I started to follow the howling of them. As I walked over tree roots, squeezed between trees, and walked over broken down branches, I heard the wolves getting louder. At this point I started to regret my decision of finding a pet wolf. But I couldn't turn back now! One reason was because I was now lost. But I heard the wolves ahead.
