Chapter: 7 A human!
I woke up feeling water on my feet and lots of sand in my hair. I slowly sat up and remembered where I was. I felt a chill run down my arms and I felt as if I had been stuck in a freezer! I blew warm air into my hands then stuck them in my arm pits. I looked down at my feet. Glazing at the water. The tide had come up and my feet were now soaked. I quickly sat up, grabbed my fishing rod, and ran to my boat. Inside of the boat were the comfy leafs, some water from the ocean, and the sail. I quickly grabbed the sail and wrapped it around my body as if it was a blanket. There were clouds in the sky and it was very foggie. I could feel the ocean breeze in my face. I knew I couldn't stay here forever so I did what I had to do. I wrapped the sail around me and hopped out of the boat. I started digging. I remembered that when I would go to the beach with my aunt and uncle that I would bury myself in the sand, and when I got out, my legs would be freezing!
After digging for ten minutes, I buried my legs in the sand. It was warm, and I felt better. Things were 45% ok. I was warm, not very hungry, but I was scared. I needed to find another shelter. The cave didn't work, neither did the forest house. Then I had an idea! And idea so great it would knock your socks off! Of course I wasn't wearing socks cause I was barefoot. Then I thought, bears. It gave me a chill just thinking about it. Anyway, my idea was to dig a hole in the sand, just like I had done with the sand. Except this time, it would be huge. I felt a wave of worry and coldness wash over my face, as I got out of the sand. My legs felt like icicles! I needed a shovel, so I wrapped myself with the sail, grabbed some seaweed, and headed for the forest. At this point, I was cold and tired. Every step I took, I tied a piece of seaweed behind me to any branch I could see. "This can't get any worse." I said to myself. Now before I tell you what happened next, I just have to say........THIS BOOK IS EXACTLY LIKE A MOVIE! And you guessed it, it started to rain. I could feel the little raindrops running down my arms, and onto my finger tips. As I walked the extra sail dragged behind me, getting muddier and muddier as I walked. When I went sailing that day I didn't expect it to rain! I heard a crash of lightning in the sky, and rain pouring down and hitting the ground. I had run out of seaweed at this point and it was nearly impossible to go anywhere without getting lost. I quickly ripped of a piece of the sail (the part that was all dirty) and tied it between three trees, making a roof like tarp. I sat on the log below it, feeling defeated. That's when I heard it. At first I thought it was just really hard rain, but as it became louder, I was proved wrong. I stepped out from beneath the tarp and looked to the sky. The sound was now very loud and I could see a helicopter in the sky! "HELP!" I shouted! "HEEEEEEELP!!!!" The helicopter couldn't hear me.
I quickly ran toward the beach, following my seaweed path. I ran as fast as I had ever ran before! Faster than when I was running from the wolves! I was so ready to get off this island! When I reached the beach, I saw that the "help" sign that I had made with rocks now was washed away from the tide. I frantically started waving my arms, hoping that the helicopter would see me, but it was no use. I put my hands down, and started toward the mountain. The mountain! That was it! I quickly started heading into the forest again, stomping in the muddy ground. Sweat, rain, and fear ran down my spine, as I made my way toward the mountain. If I wanted the helicopter to see me in time, I would have to hurry. I could still see the helicopter above, so it must have been circling the island, but I don't know why. When I reached the mountain, I found it was very difficult at first. But as I climbed higher, it got easier and easier. My hand grabbed hold of a rock, and my foot stepped on a rock, but I had no shoes or gloves on for that matter, so my hands and feet hurt. After about a minute of this, I reached a little edge in the mountain, with a cave! Before I tried to find shelter though, I needed to be rescued, which in my opinion, is better than a cave. I stared over the island. I could see the tops of the trees below me, and the clear ocean water on the shores, then I saw the helicopter.
"HELP!!!" I shouted, "HELP!!" I cried out that same word for five minutes straight before I saw it! The helicopter saw me! Or at least I think it did. It came closer and closer! This was it. I was going home. I could barely feel the wind and rain on the face anymore. All I could think about was home. The helicopter came closer, and closer, til......no. It went right past me. Over my head, right above the mountain I was sitting on. Or I was standing on.
"No!" I wailed. "It can't be! How could it not see me! I was right there!" I felt my face tense up and my fists clenching.
"Aaahhhhgggg!!!!" I screamed, "I've been waiting so, long! I just want to go home!" I sat on my knees and cried, till I heard a noise.
"Hello?" I asked, as I took a step into the cave. I regret doing that now. "Is anybody here?" The noise was confusing but familiar. I went a little deeper into the cave (which I also regret doing) when I heard the noise again. I looked in and saw a bobcat!
"Aaahhhh!!!!" I screamed, as I started running back toward the entrance! Don't blame me! It's not like I've ever encountered a bobcat before! I freezed and looked him in the eye. As it came into the light, I could see all the colors and details in the cat's fur. I would even say it was a majestic creature if I wasn't in total danger. I slowly backed away from the cat, feeling the rain once again pouring on my face, as I exited the cave and onto the cliff. My foot slipped and almost fell off the edge. I felt a feeling of fear go through my body, then I felt a sigh of relief. Not totally secure but enough that I could slowly climb over the edge, and away from the bobcat. I held the edge of the cliff with my fingers, dangling. But it didn't stop there. The bobcat leaped from the cliff, over my head, and on to the ground, where he sat there, waiting for me to come down.
I stayed there for ten minutes or so, but the bobcat didn't seem to be affected by the time. I eventually thought that the bobcat would stay there for all eternity. The cat had made up his mind. If he was a he. He was going to stay right there until I came down. I was his lunch. But not yet. I forgot to tell you but I was at least a story off the ground and the bobcat was on the ground. My fists were clenched to a rock while my feet were perched on a small tree branch. I wasn't dangling anymore but I was still terrified.
"Aaahhh!!!" I yelled. I could feel the sweat running down my face, onto my chin, and slowly dripping off onto the ground. I eventually found a solution. I reached my hand over the edge and onto a spiky rock. I reached my other hand and took a breath. I'm gonna fall, I'm gonna fall, I thought, as I took my foot off of the branch and onto another rock, I reached with my hand again onto a rock. Again, my other foot was lifted onto the rock where my hands used to be, and I pulled myself up. I was dangling from my knees down, and using my hands, pulling up onto the cliff. I sighed and sat there for a while, rain still pouring on my cold body. Then, a moment of silence.
Feeling a sigh of relief, I sat up onto the cliff, still afraid to look down. I am never going rock climbing again. I thought, as I slowly, but carefully looked down. The bobcat was gone! I heard a growl, and felt a fear grow on my stomach. I turned and saw the bobcat. I didn't want this to happen all over again! I just wanted to go home! And by now, I was all muddy and gross from that cliff. The bobcat slowly crept forward, then stopped, and looked over the side of the mountain. I too looked but I didn't know why till I heard it. Humans!
"Help!" I wailed! "HEEEEELLLLLPPPPP!!!!"
"Do you hear that?" I heard a man say. They must be campers! I'm saved! The bobcat saw the flame in the campers hand and ran away, and through the hard rain, I saw it too. A torch!
"Help!" I said again. "Help!" I sat up, all muddy and wet, running to the light. I ran thinking, this is too good to be true! I could barely see through the rain and just that is what caused this to happen. I tripped over a root on the ground and face flat, went sliding down the muddy mountain.
"Nooo!" I yelled, sliding right past the people. I didn't know who they were but I was sad to leave! Mud, leaves, and tree branches flicked on my face as I went down the mountain. It was like I was sledding! But without the sled, and the snow, and the fun, instead, mud, my t-shirt, and fear! This was definitely not too good to be true.
I reached the bottom and immediately started running back up the mountain! But it was no use! I was too muddy, and so was the mountain.
"Rahhrrrrrr....." I froze. It was the bobcat. Not again! I slowly looked around. I couldn't handle this anymore! I'm only twelve! I looked around again and started running toward the beach. I couldn't handle this nonsense anymore! I heard steps running behind me and I was more terrified than ever. The rain started to stop, and the fog went away. I could see the beach! I immediately ran out of the forest, through the sand, which I'm usually not good at running through sand, and into the water. I didn't care about how cold and foggie it was, I needed to get away from that cat! I ran into the ocean, ignoring the small waves that usually knocked me over. I saw all the mud in the water that came off of me and I shivered. I could barely touch the ground and the ocean gave me bad memories.
I heard a rustle in the bushes and held my breath.
