Chapter 11: Fun

Mom had finished fixing up the whole in the ground that the anchor had made and putting on the new sail. Dad's arm felt slightly better so he started to help too. As you probably remember, there was a huge rock that had pierced through the front of the boat and the only way to fix it was from the inside. So when we were done fixing it, there would one, be a giant bump on the inside, and two, we would try to push that bump, inside out, so that we would have the front of the boat secure. At least that's what Mom had said. She also said that if we couldn't do it this way, that we had a plan "B". We would need to push the boat more toward the shore and away from the rock so that we could patch it up but we would need to do it quickly before the tide came back up.
"Kalah! Can you hand me another piece of wood?" Dad said from the inside of the boat. I handed him another piece of the thick and splintery wood from the top of the boat. This morning, me and mom had found a broken down tree in the forest and we brought it back to camp. Mom was chopping pieces off of it with a stone rock that Dad made, then, she handed them to me on the deck, then I handed them to Dad, who was patching up the inside of the boat. I was also in charge of handing dad the hammers and nails and such. When I handed Dad some wood, he would take it, then line it up against the inside wall of the boat, then ask for a nail, then hammer it on. It kinda got boring after a while but still, it was worth it to get off this island.
"I need another nail," Dad said.
"Here." I said lazily, handing him another rusty nail from the tool box.
"Whats up?" Dad said concerned. I looked at him and answered,
"I'm getting bored." What was I supposed to say? I'm good, everythings good?
"Well," Dad replied with a smile, "Why don't we take a break, and have some fun?" I smiled at the thought and Dad came out of the boat. "Let's have a beach day!" I smiled and me and Dad jumped onto the warm, soft sand.
"Hey Mom!" I yelled to her from across the beach, "Wanna play in the water with us and take a break from working?" Mom stopped chopping wood and ran over to us.
"I thought that you'd never ask!" Her big smile made me happy and filled me with joy. I quickly grabbed her hand and dragged my mom into the water. The water was cold but nice. It made a chill run down my spine but it quickly disappeared.
"Move over everyone! Prepare to be splashed!" Dad yelled happily, as he bolted toward the water! He ran so fast it looked like a blur! Then SPLASH!!! He jumped into the water and got me and Mom soaked! I looked at him as if I was saying watch out Dad, I'm gonna get revenge! And I did! I brang my fists in the air and whacked them against the water! Splashing the cold sea water all over him! Then Mom spun around, making water spin all around her! We were all soaked and were all having so much fun!
"Should we get back to work?" I asked an hour later.
"Ya, we should..." Mom said, "But should we? We're having so much fun!" Everyone (me and Dad) looked at her. "But I am the parent so I am going to be responsible and say we have to go and work on the boat." Me and Dad looked at her with our puppy eyes.
"Pleeeeeeeaaase?" We begged. Mom couldn't say no to that.
"Oh fine!" She said, smiling again and splashing us both! After another hour, the sun was going down and we were all starving. We came out of the water and it felt as if the cold nights air was clinging to my skin and making us feel as if we were in a freezer. We slowly came up to our camp and were just barely able to start a fire before we froze! Mom put some salmon over the fire as we got snuggled up in our blanket/leaf. After we ate, we went to bed. We had spent the whole day having fun, we lost at least three hours of work. But it was worth it.
