Chapter 3: Wolves
I walked through the trees, as the wolves howling grew louder. The ground faded from leaves and tree roots, to dirt, sand, and paw prints. I followed the prints until I heard the howling stop. The dirt and sand on the ground turned to rock, and I looked up and I saw wolves. Lots and lots of wolves.
I hid behind a tree to watch. The wolves were beautiful. One was a grayish silver, with ocean blue eyes, and a little bit of brown on its ear. Another, was all black, and had dark brown eyes, and brown on its paws. And one was light brown, with gold spots on its legs, and gold eyes. He was my favorite. I watched as the wolves ate some meat then rested on the hard rock ground. I stepped forward to take a closer look, but I stepped on a twig, and it snapped. All of a sodden, every wolf had woken up, and was looking at me. I froze. I felt like I was in movie! I mean, come on! A twig snapped? The wolves started growling and I remembered that I wasn't in a fantasy, and having a wolf pet was ridiculous. As the wolves slowly got up I stoped breathing, and ran!
Ok, so tell me if this sounds fun. You are stranded on an island, running through a thick forest as fast as you can go, breathless, tripping over tree roots wherever you step, holding a ten pound piece of wood, while being chased by blood thirsty wolves. That's what's happening. I kept running, and eventually, the roots and leaves on the ground disappeared, and sand appeared on the ground. I started to run toward my cave.
I ran as fast as my legs could carry me. I ran and I ran til I got in my cave, and blocked the entrance with my piece of bark. I was breathless. My heart was pounding like a drum, and I had sweat running down my forehead. The wolves waited outside to see if I would come out, but I would NOT open that door. After a while the wolves left. I opened the bark wood just a little bit to make sure. Then I heard a small whimper. I looked down and saw a little wolf pup! He looked just like the brown wolf I admired so much. I picked him up, and saw that he was harmless. "What was he doing here? Usually the pack does not take small cubs with them to hunt." I said to the pup. Even though he could not understand me. Then I realized it. He must have snuck out, and gotten his paw stuck in the door when I slammed it!
" Poor pup! "I said to him. "I am going to name you treasure. " I looked at his wound and looked in my book to see if I could figure out how to heal him. After some research, I was able to make him a rap for his paw. Also, Treasure some how cracked my watch so I couldn't read the time anymore. I made him a bed out of a bush, and the leaves were surprisingly soft! I also used the leaves for my bed too.
After I had read my book some more, my stomach started to growl. I was getting really hungry. So I decided to find food. By looking around where the sun was, I saw that it was about 3:00-5:00 PM. I started walking to the forest with treasure. It was really nice. I could hear the birds chirping and the leaves swishing between the trees, and I felt calm. All of a sudden, I heard a howl. It was probably the wolves. Then I thought about treasure. About how his mother probably missed him. So I did something that was really hard to do. Even though I had only been with treasure a couple hours, I still really loved him. He was an adorable puppy but I know his mom missed him more than I ever could. So I followed the howling sounds of his family, walking over tree roots, broken down twigs and breaking, and dirt and grass, until I reached a nice sandy path with dog prints all over the ground. The sand turned to rock and I saw all of the wolves.
I nudged treasure to go forward, but he didn't. He just sat there. He looked scared and afraid. I suddenly noticed something. I looked at the wolves and none of them looked like the ones I had seen before. Instead, they were all black with dark brown eyes. I suddenly knew this was not treasures pack. I slowly backed away carrying treasure with me until again, I stepped on a twig. What's with all the twigs! And then again, the wolves sat up, stared at me and treasure, and started to growl.
Again I was running from wolves. Sweat running down my face my heart pumping like a drum, while carrying treasure who had no idea what was happening. My arms hurt, my legs hurt, and I was so scared. I mean, if a whole bunch of wolves were chasing you, would you be scared? Probably.
The tree started getting thicker, and thicker, so I started to turn away from the forest, and toward the beach. I started running and running and running as fast as I could possibly go to the beach. But it was not the same beach that my cave was on. It was about a fourth of a mile away from where my cave was. But at least there was water. I started running toward the water, carrying treasure above my head in my hands, until I was neck deep in the ocean. The wolves did not like the water, so they sat on the beach.
I sat in the water, as the sun slowly went down. It felt as if I had been out there for hours. My arms were hurting, and my legs were aching. Suddenly, I felt a big hard thing bump against my body. I was too scared to look down, so I looked at Treasure. I suddenly felt another bump, and this time I almost fell over! Then, I saw a fin.
