Chapter 6: Food
I was exhausted from that night, so I fell asleep about an hour after the rain. I didn't sleep well because of the pouring rain, but I at least got some sleep. I woke up smelling smoke. There was burnt trees and dead grass. Then I started to feel hungry.
"My strawberries!" I gasped, as I ran to the part of my burnt nook where I had kept the strawberries. I remembered how I had taken the bowl off to get water, and there was no protection on my precious berries. I fell on my knees next to the strawberries thinking, I'm gonna starve to death! I'm gonna starve to death! I sat next to the dead berries for a while, when I remembered something. If I was in a cartoon, a lightbulb would appear over my head. How could I be so stupid? Fish! I'm on an island full of them!
I quickly jumped up and ran toward the ocean, my hair flying behind me. The wet dirt turned to dry dirt as I ran. The dirt soon became sand and I was now on the beach. I quickly started heading toward my crashed boat. About 12 minutes later, I was on my boat and searching.
"Yes!" I said as I took the fishing rod from the boat. I held it in the air and screamed with joy! It felt like I had just won a race and was holding a giant trophy! (Which was the fishing rod) and standing on a giant stage for everyone to see, (Which was the boat) I jumped off the boat, and threw the end of the string into the water. I sat there for an hour and nothing happened.
Oh. I forgot to put the bait on. (Embarrassed emoji) I set my pole down on the sandy ground, and started running toward the forest again. I searched around looking for bugs, worms, anything I could find. I ignored my old nook because it had only dry ground on it.
I eventually found a worm and put it in my pocket. I found more and more until my pocket was full, and then started walking back toward the beach. I must have been really clumsy that day because when I got half way back to the beach, I ran into a tree while still looking on the ground for worms. It hurt alot. I quickly jumped up back to my feet and went back to the beach. I stood next to my boat with the fishing rod, reaching into my pocket to get a worm. I couldn't feel the slimy worms in my pocket, all I could feel was a hole. A big, fat, hole.
"No!" I said to myself, dropping the fishing rod on the beach again and heading back toward the forest. I would have thrown the fishing rod at the ground but I didn't want to risk breaking it. Since my pocket had a hole in it now I had to carry the worms in my hand! It was so gross. The slimy little worms swiggled between my fingers, trying to escape as I walked.
Finally, an hour later, I was heading to the beach at last! When I got to the beach, I put the worms in the little tin bowl that I had, and layed on the ground, taking a deep sigh as I relaxed. I had never been this hungry! Not since my aunt and uncle left me at the store when I was five! And I don't even remember that all well! Quickly remembering this, and sat up and grabbed a worm, put it on the end of the hook, and casted it out. But if I got to hungry, and didn't catch a fish, I would eat the worm. Actually, nevermind. I was bored. I sat on the beach, my eyes felt droopy, my brain felt tired, and soon, I was asleep.
I could feel the sand between my toes, the water constantly on my feet, and the ocean breeze in my hair. I had just woken up. Plus, the sunset looked beautiful! Everything was calm. Everything was ok. I thought that maybe, just maybe, I would make it off this island alive.
All of the asoden, I felt a tug on the fishing rod. It felt so big that I couldn't hold on to it much longer! The fishing line started to pull me into the water! And the fish wasn't a fish, but a shark!!!!! AAAAHHH!!!!
I felt a peck on my face, I sat up instantly! The first thing I saw was a seagull. Was I dead? No. it was a dream thankfully.I shooed the seagull away. I looked around and it was dark. The moon and stars were shining up ahead, and there was no light in sight. Using the same technique as last time, I started a campfire. I had to grab a couple rocks, but a pile of fire wood on the sand, and hit the rocks together until I got a flame. It's not as easy as it looks. I mean it. But I did it on the sand so it wouldn't burn anything else. Again, I casted out the rod, and after an hour, I caught a fish, it was cooked, in my stomach, and I was asleep.
