Caught Up in Another Situation

Once they stepped outside, Luca and Alberto both flinched as Giuila squealed loudly with excitement. She went up to both of them and hugged them tightly, jumping up and down. "GUYS! I am SO excited!"

"Really? I thought you were having a mental crisis," Alberto said sarcastically.

Giuila laughed, "Hey, I know I can get overly excited sometimes, but you guys HAVE to see this!"

She took something out of her pocket and held it in front of their faces. "It's a letter! From SOFIA!"

Alberto blinked. Luca gasped, smiling, "Really? She wrote to you? Well what'd she say?"

Giuila replied, "She said that she's coming to visit us in five days! After she kept begging her Mom to take her to Portorosso, she finally said yes! We'll have to wait...but I'm SO happy!"

Luca's smile widened even more, and then he started jumping with excitement too. "This is AWESOME! SHE'LL FINALLY GET TO SEE THIS PLACE AND EVEN MEET ALBERTO FOR THE FIRST TIME!"

He hugged Alberto, nearly crushing him. "I can't wait to see her! We're gonna have even MORE fun! She's going to love it here, and she's gonna love you, Alberto!"

Giuila hugged both of them. "This is incredible! We might even have another underdog in the group, too!"

Alberto just smiled at the two. He remembered them telling him about Sofia, but he wouldn't know how to react until he saw her himself.

Luca suddenly stepped back from them as he realized something. "But wait...wouldn't Ercole and his gang try to bully her too? Because if they see her with us...there's no doubt that they'd target her..."

Giuila frowned, lowering her head. "Oh, yeah..."

Nothing but silence filled the atmosphere now. Alberto became annoyed and snapped his fingers at both of them, "Aye! What's up with you two? We were able to deal with those idioti (idiots) before! We can teach Sofia how to handle them, too! And then we'd be fine!"

Giuila shrugged, "I mean, we could try! But...we don't even know how to deal with them OURSELVES!"

"Well...Massimo said we should stay away from them, so...we should do that, and we'll be ok, right?" said Luca hopefully.

Alberto sighed, shaking his head, "Oh Luca, povera anima innocente (you poor, innocent soul). If only that were as easy as it sounds. Listen, we won't always be able to get away from them. Sometimes, they might follow us if we try walking away. And they have no problem with starting fights, either. So, if it ever comes to that, we'll either call for help, or we'd have to fight back."

"But...wouldn't we get in trouble too?" Luca said with a worried face.

Al put a hand on his shoulder, "So what? It's called self-defense. Everyone needs it. This world is full of crazy people, and sometimes, when there's no other way out, you have to fight. No one should get in trouble for defending themselves, that's stupid."

Giuila shrugged, nodding. "I mean, yeah, you're right. It's sad that people have to protect themselves and others, but...that's how it is, unfortunately. So, should we...start carrying some kinda weapon with us then? Whenever we're going anywhere?"

"Massimo has some pocket knives I'm sure he'd let us carry around, for whenever we're alone," Al replied.

Luca sighed, giving in. "Ok, fine. But I don't like hurting people..."

"I know, it sucks. But if we wanna live, it's what we gotta do." Alberto went back inside, then came back out a couple minutes later. He handed them each a pocket knife and stuck his own in his pocket. Luca and Giuila pocketed theirs too.
