"They've already told you that they don't hurt people." I was on the brink of tears, I was getting frustrated. I don't know why my father refused to believe in the facts. I didn't know why he would ignore what was right in front of him. "Can't you see that they wouldn't kill?" I pointed to the terrified sea creatures which surrounded me. "What would that make you then dad? For punishing a family who didn't deserve it?"
"What else could've dragged her down to bottom of the sea? We couldn't even find her!" He finally shouted at the top of his lungs. I was quiet. I attended my mother's funeral with the assumption that she was inside the coffin. It was a long time ago and I was young. I didn't think that it could've been a lie. Nothing prompted me to think it could've been a lie. I had betrayal running through my veins.
"We are peaceful creatures!" Ladon said confidently and desperately. "We take people away from the sea. Why would we bring anyone closer?" He shuddered slightly at the idea. "There are those of us who work to clean up any of those who pass by accident. It is enough work for us. We wouldn't increase it."
I could see that my father was becoming slightly convinced. His eyes were softening but it wasn't by much. "Which other sea creature-" he spat out the words''Would do it then?"I raised my eyebrow and looked towards the Sirenneyets. They gave each other a look. I couldn't read their expressions but it was clear there was an understanding.
"Aquayges are the most violent of them all." Kano said softly. My eyes then snapped to Turin who was now standing still and watching us, he had his hands pressed together in a prayer-like motion. "They need people and bodies for their spells and experiments." The room became still and dark. The air was thick and constricting. It was gloomy and eerie. There was so much discomfort in this place.
My father slowly turned to Turin with fire in his eyes. He raised an eyebrow and crossed his arms. "Is that right?" It was as though Turin was a child being told off by his parents. "You don't happen to know anything about my wife do you?" Turin rolled his eyes and walked further away from my father. I could tell that he was a little bit scared of my father. It was either that or he didn't care to get any blood on his rather fancy clothing.
"You know the reasons." Turin gestured towards us elegantly. "They're valuable assets to our equipment. It's also rather fun." His smile became sinister and I wanted to run away. It was dark and creepy. I felt like I was in a horror movie. I was currently helpless in the water.
"That didn't answer my question." My father stepped closer to Turin. The sound echoed around the cave. It felt as though we were slightly forgotten about, I didn't mind that at all. "Do you know what happened to my wife?" He gritted his teeth and spoke dangerously low.
Turin still had his hands outstretched "well.." He trailed off, the smile still staying on his face. "Yes, I know what happened to your wife." The smile and happy nature of Turin did not please my father at all. Soon the man found himself with a gun to his throat. "Ah Ah Ah." Turin tsked with a finger up. It was as though he was scolding a child. "Remember who is in charge here."
The next few moments happened quicker than I could blink. My father tried to pull the trigger, the gun wouldn't have fatally hurt Turin but that didn't matter as the gun was moved away from him and aimed at Kano. The Sirenneyet gave a blood curdling scream as their tail was shot. Ula quickly tried to push me out of the way. The water which surrounded Kano began to get darker. I had to keep myself up on a piece of rock away from the water. I couldn't move or else I'd fall right back in. The entirety of the water started to grow darker and darker as Ladon moved to his son. He put a hand over the wound and looked to see if the bullet was still inside. I couldn't focus on that too much.
I was distracted by my father and Turin. It had turned into a hand to hand fight. Turin was trying to aim for the neck whilst my father tried to keep him away. I knew that I wouldn't be able to be a part of the fight as I was too far away and in a rather poor position. I could see the rock which lined the pool eroding slightly and dissolving. It was where the Sirenneyet blood reached in the water. It was as though the water had turned acidic.
"I'm the one in charge here!" Turin spat angrily into my father's face. "You want to know what happened to your wife? I did it. I used her just like I will use you and your pathetic daughter and her mute friend!" With each word I could see my father becoming more and more angry. He started to make a low noise in the back of his throat which got louder.
I looked with wide eyes as my father started to push Turin with all his might. "Get out of the water!" I shouted to the Sirenneyets who were in the water. It took them no time to swim to the edge of the pool. Ula and Ladon helped Kano onto the rocks. Turin was pushed into his wall of vials and herbs before being kicked into the acidic waters.
I could see different colours appearing on my father's arms from where he had been in contact with some of the chemicals but nothing dire seemed to have happened. I thought that it was all over so I relaxed slightly, staying where I was. Though when a scaly blue hand reached out of the water, I gave a loud screech.
I looked down to see a creature. It had rainbow scaly skin. It had long fingernails and yellow eyes. I could see a red forked tongue behind very sharp teeth. The light gleamed off scales and it sent rainbows around the cave .The long blue hair was undeniably Turins'. "If i'm going down, you are too." His voice became raspy and hoarse. As though he had a cold.
I lost my balance and fell into the water.
