"You know, the more you're around me, the more you're lowering your status quo" Beth tells me as we sit on a table towards the back of the lunch hall.

"Who even says status quo anymore?" I ask with a barely concealed grin.

"Me, so shut up" She sticks her food filled tongue out.

"Oh that's disgusting!" I say, covering my eyes with my free hand briefly.

"You love it" She winks

I snort with laughter "Sure I do"

She smiles at me "You know, you aren't as shy as I thought you were"

I blush and nod slightly

"No nevermind, you are" She says

I glare at her making her grin. I roll my eyes and continue to eat my ham sandwich. Beth stares at my sandwich in disgust.

"I have no idea how you can eat that" She says in disgust.

"It's easy, look"

I place the sandwich by my mouth.

"You bite a piece off"

I move my mouth forward slowly and bite some of the sandwich off.

"You chew it until it's smooth"

I chew slowly until it's easy to swallow. At this point Beth is glaring at me, unimpressed.

"And them you swallow it and wait for your body to digest it"

I swallow it and grin at Beth.

"I hate you"

"You liar" I wink.

She lowers her head and pouts "I know"

I chuckle "So, where do you live?"

She raises an eyebrow "Not planning on stalking me are you?"

I raise my hands in the air slightly "You caught me"

She rolls her eyes and recites her address to me.

"What about you? Where do you live?"

I tell her my address and she grins "You live 5 minutes from me!"

I squeal girlishly "OMG! We can like hang out and eat salad!"

Beth grins "EW! No salad? What are you a sumo wrestler?!"

I sigh disgustedly "You're right...We'll have water!"

Beth wipes a fake tear from underneath her eye "Your learning"

I snort and finish off my sandwich.

"Oh great" Beth mumbles and rolls her eyes.

"What?" I ask.

"Hello girls" A voice says from beside us.

I look up and see Stacey standing there. Her dyed blonde hair is sitting on her shoulders neatly. Her green eyes are glaring at us (mostly me). She has 2 twins stood on either side of her with bored expressions.

"Hi Stacey" Beth mumbles.

"So...?" Stacey addresses me and ignores Beth completely.

"Rayne" I supply my name.

"Rayne? Seriously? Were your parent's high when they named you?" Stacey murmers.

I don't know what it was. Maybe it was the fact that I had a friend for once in my life. Or maybe I was so used to being myself around Beth that it hasn't worn off yet. It might have even been because I was sick of holding my tongue everytime someone said something. But whatever it was, it made me say something back.
