Blood.
All Marcello saw was blood on the murky concrete floors of the warehouse. It was splattered across the large windows tainting the glass red. Boot footprints were tracked after someone had stepped into the deep puddles of the bodies, that laid motionless after they had been slaughtered. The bodies were cut open like fish on a board after the butcher had his fill. None of them ever had a chance of surviving or escaping. There was no mercy tonight, no forgiveness either. Death hadn't seen a more gruesome scene than this.
Right at Marcello's soiled boots laid countless bodies, that met the end of his cruel blade. Marcello's body, as taciturn as the reaper itself, stood amongst the massacre. His own men killing leftovers and gathering their bodies to dispose of later. However, Marcello didn't bother with the cleanup. Instead, he was tempted to leave the mess for the world to see and fear.
Percy appeared, sweaty and battered from the fight. "We've apprehended Bruno, boss," he said sternly.
"Bring him to me," he said. Marcello didn't recognize his own voice.
"Yes, sir," Percy said before he quickly walked off to follow his command.
Marcello sheathed his blade, when he had though, he caught a glimpse of his sullied hands. They were red; a beautiful colour that was the epitome of passion and love. But right now, all Marcello thought of was how the filth that stained his flesh had shown him the sins he had collected today.
His skin was ice to the touch, but why did he feel as if he was set on fire. He felt every muscle in his body aching from the fight. The blood pumped through his veins rapidly, like it was still thrilled to soak in all the violence.
Marcello's ears muffled to the sounds of cries and the screams of all the men around him. He stood amongst what he was so familiar with all his life. Death. He had greeted that mysterious part of life every day since the day he could remember to hold a gun.
Death wasn't so mysterious to him anymore. There was no such thing like the afterlife or paradise or even Maya. There was only darkness. A darkness that Marcello could see right now in front of him.
Marcello stiffly shifted when Percy returned with a few men holding Bruno captive. Percy pulled up a chair as the men slugged Bruno's body onto the wooden seat. Marcello waited as Percy worked efficiently to tie him up and present him to his boss.
Bruno groaned as he circled his head back. He had a bloody nose and a purplish black bruise already swelling the right side of his face. His expensive Valentino suit, that he always wore with pride had been tattered and stained with dirt and blood. Bruno slumped against the chair and his head hanging in front of him. He regained consciousness when he caught whiff of Marcello's dangerous scent.
"You must be fucking crazy to attack me on my own turf," Bruno snarled as soon as he found the nerve to face Marcello.
But Marcello held no expression. His eyes were blank as a bottomless pit, that showed only darkness. Right now, even Marcello's own men were weary of his mood.
Bruno coughed as he tried to take a breath, it was probably because his rib cage had been shattered. "Marcello, you'll pay for this," he seethed.
"How will you do that exactly?" asked Marcello coldly. "I already killed all your men. I burned your money and that conveniently hidden safe in the back of your office. And right now, my men are arranging to burn this warehouse down with you still in it."
Bruno's eyes widened with alarm. "You- you wouldn't do that," he stuttered. "You can't do this to me!"
"I can and I did," retorted Marcello.
