"Getting married?" Jan asked, with her eyes wide open, as they were sitting at the cafeteria, waiting for their friends to get out of their classroom to have lunch together. "Well at least you're now with Nicky."

"Not anymore." Rosé buried her face on her palms.

"Why?"

"We talked after dinner." She replied, raking her hands through her hair, "She knows how I feel about Denali, and I couldn't deny it. She deserves much more than what I could give her."

Jan put her hand over Rosé's shoulder, trying to give her some comfort, "Are you planning to keep Nicky just as a friend then?"

"I don't know," Rosé sighed, "I mean, I want to be her friend, but then again I don't, you know? I mean, how can you simply be friends with someone when every time you look at them, you're thinking about how much more you really want?"

"So, you do have feelings towards Nicky?"

"Of course I do, Jan. But with Denali it just hits different."

"Hey love," Jackie said, approaching Jan, with Nicky and Denali by her sides.

"Jackie!" Jan stood and threw herself over her, planting kisses all over the Persian girl's face.

"Babe, stop." Jackie giggled, adjusting her glasses trying to hide the fact that she was as red as a tomato.

"Ow, you're blushing." Jan gave her another kiss before sitting again.

"Hey," Rosé approached Nicky, sitting next to her, "can we talk?"

"Sure," Nicky replied, "follow me."

They stood and went to the corridor, feeling Denali's eyes stabbing them on their backs as they walked out of the cafeteria.

"How are you?" Rosé asked, as they leaned against the lockers.

"As good as I can." The French girl said with a side smile.

"I'm sorry, Nicky." Rosé exhaled, "I really am. I just couldn't lie to you, you know?"

"I told you," Nicky grabbed Rosé's hands, "it's okay. And even if you're not here to stay, I'm happy the universe allowed your soul to stop by." She stated, looking into her eyes.

"I'm happy too, Nicky. And know that, even if right now we are only mean to be friends, I will look for you in every lifetime, until we finally stay." They looked at each other for a moment, in pure silence, until Rosé spoke again, "Can I give you an awkward hug?"

"It doesn't have to be awkward, silly." Nicky said, pulling her closer and hugging her.

Rosé held her tighter, smelling the sweet cherry smell that Nicky irradiated. "Are you grabbing my ass?" She asked, with her face still buried into Nicky's neck.

"Yup."

"Okay, just checking." Rosé giggled, pulling apart a little to look at her, still with her arms wrapped around the girl's body. "Can I do it one last time?" She asked, lifting her finger.

"I thought you'd never ask." She smiled, as Rosé slipped her finger down Nicky's nose.

After school, Rosé was sitting on her bed doing homework. Well, she was trying to. She kept looking at Denali, who was sitting in front of her, on her own bed, with her headphones on.

The saddest part of forbidden love is that despite the fact that your mind knows that you can't get what you desire, your heart silently keeps praying for that one person who is your last thought every night and the first one every morning, and it gets even worse when that person is there the whole time, by your side. Close, but not in the way you want to. And the worst part comes when your mind keeps telling you to move on, but your heart keeps holding on to that one dream that is never going to be true. The more your mind tries to forget about her, the more your heart keeps loving her.
