After revealing their feelings for each other, Rosé was still cupping Denali's face, looking carefully at the girl in front of her.
A feeling like a magnetic pull between them, as their foreheads pressed together, making them close their eyes. Denali's heart was almost out of her chest, as Rosé dragged gently her hand down her back, and pulled her a little closer. It was a moment of peace for both of them, just enjoying each other presence, and craving for more. Denali leaned a little, and finally, for the first time ever, their lips brushed, just barely, sending shivers down their bodies, not wanting anything but that. But suddenly, Denali pulled away with a shaking exhale, as her forehead dropped into Rosé's neck.
"Stop thinking about everything so much, Denali." Rosé exhaled. "You're breaking your own heart."
When the night fell, the bedroom was dark and quiet. Denali was trying her best. She kept up a strong front for as long as she could; but in the dark, listening to Rosé's slow, regular breathing from the other side of the bedroom, made her heart ache in pain. She curled up facing the wall, letting the tears being absorbed into the textured fabric of the blanket. Breathing was the hard part to control. She didn't want to sob, she didn't want to bother Rosé, so she huddled into the blanket, keeping as quiet as she possibly could. She couldn't quite contained one small hiccupping whimper. Then one more.
There was a light touch on her shoulder, tensing her, but soon enough she relaxed as Rosé carefully sat down next to her. Denali gave in, letting all her fear and misery take control. Her pride still didn't let her make too much noise, but she buried her face in the blanket, and let the tears fell freely. Rosé gently rubbed Denali's back, letting the touch say what words couldn't, at that moment. "I'm here," it said.
It sucks, doesn't it? Liking someone you can't have. Seeing them everyday, but knowing that they'll never be yours. It's the worst feeling, because all you can do is dream about and wish for them, but never have them.
The night passed just like that, until they fell asleep, Rosé caressing Denali's hair as the girl kept whipping from time to time. And when finally the sun rose up, they woke up.
Not even a word was said.
"Are you okay, dear?" Alice, Denali's mom asked her, as they were all sitting at the table eating breakfast. "Your eyes are red and puffy."
"Yeah, mom. I'm fine."
"Did you cry?"
"Did the guy you're dating do something to you?" Connor, Rosé's dad wondered, "I swear, Denali, if he hurt you-"
"He didn't." Denali assured, "Don't worry." A smile grew inside her, "I see where Rosé got her protective instinct from." She thought.
"What about you?" Alice looked towards Rosé.
"What about what?"
"Any love interest?"
Rosé cleared her throat, "Actually, I do." Denali almost choked with her cereal hearing those words.
"Oh, really?" Her dad asked, taking a sip of his coffee, "Is she nice? Do we know her?"
"She?" Alice furrowed her eyebrows, looking at her boyfriend.
"Oh, right, you don't know," he said, "she doesn't like boys."
"Oh, I didn't have a clue. Did you know it, Denali?" She asked, looking at her daughter. "Why are you blushing?"
"I'm not." Denali said with a high tone.
"Liar." Rosé said between coughs.
"Anyways," Denali spoke, getting up from the chair, "we should go to school, is getting late."
