The girls fell asleep watching the movie in the living room, and suddenly Denali woke up with the sound of the alarm. She looked around her and saw that all her friends were still sleeping, but Rosé wasn't there.
She tried not to care about it, and decided to let her friends sleep a little bit more before school. She made her way to the bathroom for her morning routine, and when she was done, she went to her bedroom to change her pajamas.
Denali opened the door and the first thing she saw was a half-naked Rosé. "Oh my God, I'm so sorry." She apologized closing her eyes.
"It's okay, Denali." She said, putting on a t-shirt. "We're family now, right?"
"That's my shirt?" Denali asked.
"Yeah, why?" Rosé looked at her. "If you don't want me to use your things I can take it off." She said as she began to lift the shirt.
"Oh no," Denali stopped her. "It's okay." She said with a chukle. "It looks better on you, tho."
"I doubt that."
"Believe me." Denali replied, as she grabbed a white tennis skirt and a blue t-shirt. "I'm gonna change it in the bathroom." She attempted to leave, but Rosé took her by the wrist making her turn around.
They ended up inches away from each other, and Denali could feel her heart pounding hard on her chest.
"What do you want?" She muttered.
"You know what I want." Rosé replied, getting even closer. She could see how dilated Denali's pupils were. "And I think you want the same."
"No." Denali whispered, as she closed her eyes, feeling Rosé's body against her. "I don't want anything." She lied, trying to believe it herself.
"You can't keep it all inside, you know?" Rosé spoke softly. "Botting it up won't do any good." She caressed Denali's shoulder.
"Stop doing that." Denali muttered, as she could feel herself melting in Rosé's arms.
"Doing what?" Rosé asked.
"Making me feel good." Denali whispered.
There's a charm about the forbidden that makes it unspeakably desirable. We crave what we can't have.
"Let me go, please." Denali begged.
"Do you really want that?" Rosé put her hand over Denali's cheek.
"No."
"Me neither, sis."
The nickname brought Denali back to reality, making her push Rosé away and run out of the room. She entered the bathroom and started to change her clothes, as hot tears began were rolling down her cheeks, almost burning her skin.
Denali washed her face with cold water, and reapplied her makeup. Once she finally calmed down, she went back to the living room, and all her friends were already awake.
"You okay, Nals?" Nicky asked softly, approaching the girl.
"I'm fine." Denali gave her a little smile. "Don't worry."
The girls took their stuff and walked to school. Once they were all by the lockers, a beautiful dark haired girl approached them.
"Friday." She spoke as she gave them an invitation card and left without saying anything else.
"Why is she inviting us to her party?" Denali was confused.
"Maybe she likes me." Nicky added and all looked at her.
"You wish." Jackie laughed.
"Go to horny jail." Jan hit Nicky playfully on her head. "Bonk."
The group began to laugh, as Rosé questioned.
"Who is she?" She looked at the dark haired girl who was at the other side of the corridor giving invitation cards to other students.
"She's Dahlia." Jan explained. "She's like the Queen Bee of the school."
"She's a bitch, but she's fine as hell." Nicky said.
"For you all the girls are fine as hell." Jackie laughed.
"So..." Jan spoke. "We are going, right?"
"I'm not sure if I wanna go." Denali said softly.
"Oh, please, sis." Rosé encouraged her. "I wanna go, and I can't do it alone."
"You have the girls."
"Yeah, but is not the same." Rosé said, trying not to sound suspicious. "I mean, I can't just leave your house on my own. It would be weird."
"It's your house now too..." Denali pointed.
"Come on, Nals!" Nicky pouted. "You have to go."
"I'm not sur-"
Jan cut her off. "You're going."
"Ok, fine. I'll go."
Sudennly, the bell rang and it was time for them to take their first class.
The morning was going well for everyone, except for Denali. She found herself on the bathroom, alone, staring at the mirror. She wasn't sad. She was mad; mad as hell. She wanted to cry, to run away as fast as she could, she wanted to disappear. It was all so fucked up. The first time someone really cared about her, and made her feel loved, it was her fucking step-sister.
They weren't meant to be, that was for sure. Not at least during this lifetime.
Sometimes, the love of your life is not the love in your life. You belong to one another, but aren't each other's. If that doesn't awaken some sort of madness inside of a person, I don't know what would.
