Leaving Volterra, River couldn't forget the look on the kings' faces. As much as she didn't want to feel this way, it made her heart ache with longing and guilt at the sadness they had expressed as she and the others left the castle.
When River had gotten into Alice's bold, yellow vehicle (which she still had managed to keep after her dispute with the police), River's first instinct was to turn tail and return to their side. But her own stubbornness and sense of logic kept her stoic. Kopa and the pack needed her. Bella was also still being hunted by Victoria. Not to mention the weight that fatedly lay heavy on her shoulders because of the tribe...
When they returned to Forks, it wasn't raining. Instead, thick, dark clouds blocked out the sun and a strange warm breeze swept through the woods, and whilst Edward and Bella returned to her house to deal with her (no-doubtedly) worried father, Alice and River continued to travel together to the Cullen house. Alice thought it would be a good idea for the werepuma to be introduced to the rest of the family sooner rather than later.
It wasn't a long drive. Their home was located on the northern outskirts of town which was much closer to River's den than the Quileute lands were. It made River a little uneasy to be so close to a vampires nest, especially ones who could mistaken her to be some nice animal snack. Though, due to her immense size compared to an average wild cat, they'd have to be pretty stupid to think of her as their next meal.
They all must have heard Alice pull into the driveway, because all remaining Cullens had piled out onto the front porch when they arrived.
When River climbed out of the front seat of the car, she walked awkwardly at Alice's side to meet the rest of her family. Though, she decided to keep her distance away from the porch rather than meet them all close-up. River would still prefer to keep cautious around them, despite what she had gone through with Alice only hours ago.
There were five she hadn't met in total, and Alice danced her way to a handsome blonde by the door gracefully. Alice mentioned him once or twice. It was her husband, Jasper. The stories did him justice. Bitemarks littered his arms, his hair was softly curled and a beautiful shade of gold like his eyes, and he wore neatly kept clothing.
Alice beckoned to her. "Everyone, this is Potami–"
"My name is River," she cut Alice off quickly.
Alice nodded slowly. "This is River. She's a mountain lion shifter that has been living in our territory for a couple of months now. She also helped us find Edward and deal with the Volturi." Dealing with them was an interesting way of putting it.
Another handsome male, River assumed was Carlisle, smiled kindly at her and nodded in acknowledgement. "It's a pleasure to meet you, River. I'm Carlisle, and this is my wife, Esme."
