Dipper's POV
The moment Mabel heard about heading to the town she had pulled me out of the shack and onto the golf cart. I have no idea how that thing is still standing after the gnome incident but she had taken the wheel and determined to drive me to town herself. Her driving skills were well, limited to the race car arcade games back at home and it certainly showed. Someone would think she was racing for the world cup at her speed. We both swerved all over the road if I wasn't immortal at this point I would have feared my own life.
As we continue to drive Mabel hits a large speed bump which almost knocks both of us out of the vehicle. I look over to see her laughing and smiling having a blast. I can't help but laugh along with her.
When we had arrived on the outskirts of gravity falls. I finally asked the question if she should be driving and as if it was almost on cue, she jumped out of the golf cart that had to be parked temporarily, placed one foot on the nearest large rock, and struck the most classic adventure pose. Then on point, she declared "Anything is legal if there are no cops around!" she had said it with determination I would have believed it if not for my better judgment. She was happy and full of life again and that made me happy. She had been so sad and down when I had seen her at my 'grave' but now that I was back she looked almost completely back to normal.
As she slowly guides me through the new and improved town after weirdmaggedon. It seemed to be almost completely repaired except for the occasional crater in the road and the hole in the roof.
Soon enough though I noticed something was off when we started to enter the downtown area I wasn't sure what exactly it was till I saw gnomes strolling out of Suzy's Diner. To top it off it wasn't just the gnomes it was the most semi-sane magical creatures they were all in town. They seemed to be really close with the townsfolk as well because manotaur's were talking with Wendy's Dad about log chucking being a manly sport and multibear was talking with the cashier at the store about music.
It all felt so foreign but it also looked kind of nice. Without the society of the blind eye, the villagers all have their memories of Weirdmaggedon and any other encounters with magical creatures.
Mabel must have noticed my curiosity in the bond between magical creatures and the citizens because when she was talking about the repairs of the town she went into more depth about how the magical creatures had helped. Staying in the mystery shack with each other had created this kind of shared trauma and from that, they had gained some kind of understanding of one another.
After the tour on the golf cart I and Mabel go and get something to eat. As we walked into the restaurant I got quite a few shocked faces when they noticed I was behind Mabel. Alive and well. Many people looked like they had seen a ghost but some people who were closer and actually knew me gave me hugs.
I was happy for the warm welcome but the hugs kind of felt different than what it had felt like before it felt like I was hugging a large animal instead of another friend. I still cared for them the same as always but now I just felt foreign like there was an invisible barrier separating me and them. Maybe it's just a result of being away from everyone for so long.
I continue on and order a meal. Wow, it had been forever since I had last eaten anything it felt strange to do it again but at the same time, it was nostalgic. I ordered a simple hamburger and fries. Mabel ordered just about every object on the menu that had sugar and whipped cream. As we at the lunch hour rush can in and I was greeted with more shocking faces that were happy to see me. Some people cried tears of joy, others gave hugs and other forms of greetings. Small chit chats happened here and there and by the time I finished eating I was still talking. However, as more and more people filled the area some kind of instinct kept whispering a message in my mind. It only continued to get louder and louder as I meet more and more people. It just kept repeating almost enough to drive me to insanity.
Let's make a deal I know you want to!
