"Jake! I haven’t seen Miss Lim around?" Adie glanced around worriedly, almost inspecting my office as he entered. He really was infatuated by her, wasn’t he?
"I asked her to deposit the ten million donation to LIFE Foundation today and I'm just waiting for her text before you know-" as I pointed to the book with my chin on my desk.
"Oh! Then we will know any second if my plan works right?" Adie replied as he slowly approached me. Involuntarily, my eyes scanned his casked right hand and a sense of guilt washed over me. I involved Adie in the middle of all this chaos, but I was also glad to see that Adie seemed to be managing it so well. My friend still hadn’t abandoned me.
Suddenly, a melody played with the tune of Knife and after a second, I realized that it was actually my phone ringing. I slowly raised my cellphone to check the caller ID but I was a little bit disappointed to see that it wasn't Miss Lim, rather an unknown number.
"Why are you not picking the call?" Adie pointed to my phone by slightly raising his casked right hand.
"It's an unknown number." and so I showed Adie my phone’s screen
"Who knows? Maybe Miss Lim's phone might have died so she used the phone of the person beside her or maybe she changed her number because she has a lot of stalkers or maybe-" I stared at him and I narrowed my eyes at his extended explanation. For a second, I saw myself old and with a beard and Adie was still brainstorming ideas! I shuddered as I knew Adie would be able to make lots of stories about Miss Lim, so to stop the long story telling, I took the call.
"Jake Thomas speaking."
"Sir! This is Mr. Black- the person you hired." I rolled my eyes as I knew that it was the strange guy from the other day.
"What is it?" I think it was obvious that I was uninterested by the tone of my voice.
"Well, you see, I haven't found the person you want me to search for, but can I ask a favor?" I lowered the phone and whispered to Adie that it was Mr. Black.
"Well, let me talk to him." Adie grabbed the phone and I let him since I really didn't want to talk with the guy. Adie became serious while discussing some matters with Mr. Black. He would sometimes nod and the last thing I heard him say was okay and then he returned my phone to me.
"So what did he want?" I was somewhat curious of what Mr. Black said. My curiosity had kicked in and I simply couldn’t control myself... which is why I'm in a huge mess right now.
"He was asking if we could give him an allowance since all the money I gave to him has already been spent and I agreed." Adie told me like it wasn’t a big deal.
"What? If he couldn't find Wisdom then what's the use? Don't hire his services already Adie!" I was irritated at how naive Adie acted and I was doubtful of Mr. Black’s intentions with my money. He had to be a fraud.
"But Jake we're using my money here so you can't do anything with it." Adie looked serious and that’s when I realized that Adie was the one who hired his services- not me and so I let him be.
Then the ringtone of my phone played again. Thinking that it might be Mr. Black again, I handed my cell over to Adie.
"Mr. Black is calling again. Take it or else I might scold him." I glared at my phone as I shoved the phone in Adie's hands. Adie stared at it and his eyes widened a small fraction. He instantly pushed the phone back towards me.
"It's Miss Lim!"
I immediately glanced at my phone’s screen and Adie was right- it was indeed Miss Lim. I exhaled before accepting the call.
