I stared blankly at one page of the book, not that I was reading it but I was just totally lost. Everything started with this book and right now I was in the middle of something so complex. I turned to the last page and my fate was still written there - unchanged! I sighed, resigned. The words still made up that dreadful sentence... For a second though, I couldn’t blame the book for throwing me into this ordeal- wouldn’t I have gone to Hell, unknowingly, but either way?
Who knew how long I had been sitting at my office- doing nothing- which wasn't me at all. I always valued time doing everything I could do at the moment, but this time I just wanted to have more time. I needed time to think and to seek for ways on how to save my life. I heaved a sigh as I was about to close the book, when suddenly the door flung open and came in an excited Adie. What could make this monkey so excited? I slightly shook my head as I registered Adie grinning!
"Jake! I know how to change your fate!" Woah- what? Adie excitedly exclaimed as he slammed his fisted hand on my table. Hmm, Adie was back to his bouncy self. When I glanced at his hands he seemed to be holding a piece of paper.
"Are you saying that the answers to my dilemma are on that,” I tilted my head in the direction of his right hand, “piece of paper?" I still couldn't believe what Adie was saying.
"Well you can say so!" Adie replied while glancing at the ceiling meaning he wasn't completely, one- hundred percent, positive.
"Right..." I sighed. It’s was becoming a bad habit.
"But hey, it's worth giving a try!" Adie insisted, offering a small smile.
"Yeah. Where did you get that piece of information?" I asked trying decided whether or not the information came from a reliable source. I needed information- good, helpful, save-me-from-Hell information.
"Well, I asked random people how they think they would go to heaven!” Adie paused, his smile turning bright, shoving his arms in the air. “So basically this is a survey that I just made." Adie finished and I thought that wasn’t so bad- I might give Adie's information a try. Like he said, it’s worth a try, right?
"Tell me about it then!" I curiously asked Adie as I stared at the piece of paper still in Adie's hand. Adie, on the other hand, straightened up and drew the paper closer to my face.
"Well, it's basically a list on what people would do in order to go to heaven. The first ones are kind of easy to do, however the further ones down are the extremes! But who knows? We could change your fate with just doing the first on the list!" Adie replied with a shrug, but I noticed his anxiety caused by the list.
"Are you sure this will work? How about looking instead for Wiz? Doesn’t she really know the answers we’re looking for?" We. Adie was with me in this and I thanked him silently for being a loyal friend.
"Oh about that, I already hired someone to do the searching for us!" Adie excitingly replied.
“Hmm, you’re quite fast!” I thanked him a billion times more as I leaned forward from my chair.. “So what's number one on the list?" I was impressed with how Adie could manage everything in so little time.
"That would be to do charitable works! Everyone I asked seems to think that a good person goes to Heaven and so I thought that makes sense!" Adie replied quickly.
"How does it make sense?" Adie's last word strikes me, and not just in shock.
"It makes sense- I have never seen you help anyone at all! You have never donated money or helped the poor or whatever- that's why you are going to Hell! You must be more humanitarian you know! A little bit generous, you know." I was a bit hurt with what Adie had just said but I also realized that he was right. I never did help anyone. Why? I was too busy making money. For what?
