What!” me and my dad shouted.
“Yeah! It would be nice to have another person for dinner and someone your age, Lyds.”
“ Mom-”
“ No, Honey, No we are not having Rodriguez over” Dad declared.
“ Honey I know what happened in the past but its the Present now get over it okay,” mom Smiles. Past? What happened in the past?
“ What happened in the past, dad?”
“ Nothing Lydia,” he sighs.
“ Well why don't you go over and invite them for dinner lyds.”
“I can't go over there! Can’t you just do it"
'' Fine I'll do it, but I can't promise that I won't say anything embarrassing.” She raises her eyebrows.
My face turns a bright red.
“ Okay! Okay! I'll go over there. Just let me finish getting ready” I get up and run to my room. I get my brush and start brushing my hair. I finish and run outside. I look over and see Benny’s house.
“ Okay Lydia, just knock, Bennys not going to be there, nothing to worry about besides… his parents,” I tell myself.
I reach their door and hold my fist to it. I sigh and knock. I hear talking , then a woman answers the door, which I'm guessing is his mother.
“Hello Ma'am or um Miss Rodriguez, I was wondering if you and your family wanted to come over for dinner.” She looked down at me and smiled,
“ Of course but why my family?” She looks at me.
“ Well when we first moved here Benny helped me carry boxes,” I mentioned.
“ Thank you so much um”
“ Lydia my name is Lydia '' I say proudly.
“ Well I better get home, those chores aren't going to do themselves,” I laughed as I walked back home.
“ What a cute girl,” Miss Rodriguez smiled. I spent the rest of my day cleaning not because I was forced but because Benny Rodriguez was coming over… TO EAT.
When it was about 5 at night Benny finally came home from the sandlot.
“ Benny dear, I need to talk to you.” Most of the time when Benny gets a talking to he's in trouble.
“ Mom, if Ham told you about the cigarette, It's 100% not true!” Benny exclaimed.
“ What no- Benny, some girl and her family invited us over for dinner tonight,” She smiles, “ So go put something nice on, ok.”
Benny walked into his room and put on his jersey, a white t-shirt to go underneath, and lastly his nicest pair of pants.
“ Babe do i have to go you know i don't like The Johnstons.” Mark glares.
“It's just for tonight ok can you behave that long. Also we never get invited to things like this.”
He sighs and gets by the door.
“ Wait, we're going to Lyds?” curiously asked Benny.
“ You know her?”
“ Yeah she's the girl that plays baseball- the one i told you about”
“ That's Her! Aw Benny she's so cute and small” Miss Rodriguez cheered.
