Step up to the plate and batter up

"Where are we going Phillips-" I asked him for the 100th time.

"Chill out, we're almost there." He drags me across one more street and down the road a bit to a small Cafe shop.

"Where here!" We walk inside and take a seat. 

"Have ya ever been here princess?" He smirks. 

"No. And can you stop calling me that!" I told him. 

"Eh maybe eventually, but you're telling me Benny has never taken you here before. Jeez he's a bad boyfriend." He laughs. I look up at him in sadness. 

"Actually- He's never taken me out." I frown. Phillips looks at me confused. 

"Wow- that guy is a loser. Jeez," he snickers, "So I'm your first date~" 

"I guess-" I mumble. I look around the place. It was super small but very cute. 

"Hey cute kiddos, what can I get y'all!" The waitress asks. 

"Um i'll have whatever the ladies getting" Phillips says. 

"Awe, what a gentleman!" She smiles. 

"Oh um- I'll just have a chocolate milkshake." I smile at the waitress. 

"Okay so two Milkshakes?" We both nod and she smiles and walks off. I sit there awkwardly waiting for Phillips to start a conversation so I don't have to. 

"Benny! Squints lost the last ball!" Yeah-yeah tattles. 

"I did not!" Squints argues. 

"Benny-?" Kenny walks up to Benny, "you Okay- you seem-" 

"I'm fine man- I'm going to take a break." Benny drops his stuff and starts walking. They boys look at eachother confused. 

"Benny- taking a break?!" 

"Yeah-Yeah, He's not okay" 

"What's wrong with him?" They keep asking each other these questions. Our milkshakes finally come and we start talking again. 

"So.. what have you been up to." I ask him. 

"Eh- nothing really, just baseball. My team made it to States so-" 

"Wow States!! That's amazing!" I told him. "Oh sorry for interrupting-" 

"Na you're good- it's nice to have someone to talk about baseball with." He smiles. 

"Hey I was thinking after this we could go to my house and hangout!" He asks. 

"Oh um- sure! Sounds fun." I smile at him. We started talking again. 

"Why should I apologize- she yelled at me. NO I gotta be a good boyfriend and apologize even though it's not my fault." Benny tells himself. "Now where she go-" 

"Are you ready to get going?" He asks while throwing away his empty milkshake cup."  

"Yup!" I smile and get up. We walk to the door. 

"After you Malady" He says charmingly. I just laugh and leave. He smiles and puts his arm around me. 

"Just gotta say sorry man- all you gotta do." Benny keeps walking down the streets. 

"So anyways then- oh speak of the devil." Phillips glares. I look up and see Benny walking this way. 

"Lyd! I was looking for you, I wanted to apologize for what I said and- wait… PHILLIPS. What are you doing with her?!" 

"Oh now you come to apologize- do you realize what an awful boyfriend you are." Phillips tells him. Benny looks up at him with sadness. 

"Why are you with him Lyd! I told you not to trust him!" He shouts. 

"He actually listened to me- unlike you." I tell him. 

"That's what I'm doing right now!" 

"Wow Benny, not letting your girl talk to who she wants. You're worse than I thought!" He laughs at Benny. Benny just looks at me. 

"Shut it Phillips! This isn't about you." Benny shouts at him. 

"Wow- still yelling. Lyd was right, you are an awful boyfriend."

"What-what are you talking about!" Benny looks at him. 

"Yeah- She was saying that you yelled at her, you don't spend time with her, and that you haven't taken her on a date."

"Wait I only said the last-" 

"Hush Lyd- it's fine I'm sticking up for you." Phillips says. 

"Is this really what you think Lyd- this whole time…" 

"I… um" I stutter. 

"Wow…" Benny chuckles, "this whole time I thought we had something- I guess I was wrong." He tells me. 

"Benny we do hav-

" Let's go Lyd, this guy doesn't deserve to talk to you." Phillips grabs my hand and starts walking. 

"Fine! I tried I warn you-" Benny says before he starts walking away. I see him walk away and get a feeling in my stomach. 

"Wait, I think I should go and talk with him." I tell Phillips. 

"You're joking right?" Phillips laughs, "come on Lyd you don't need him. He if cared he would have found you sooner." 

"I um- guess you're right." I say sadly. We get to his house just in time. Rain begins to fall from the sky. 

"My parents aren't home, they are at work and my sis is probably at her friend's." He tells me. 

"Oh okay!" We walk inside and he shows me around. 

"And this is my room" He opens the door and I walk in. 

"Your room is pretty cool! Wow, look at all your baseball stuff!" I smile and look at his shelves.

"Wow you have a lot of trophies. Hey do you have- wait what are you doing-" I turn around and see Phillips lock the door. 

"Um- what are you- actually I just remembered I have to do a um thing! So um-" 

"Oh princess- your not going anywhere~"
