ten.
→ → → →I bit my lip every five seconds to stop smiling but, it wasn't working. The whole car ride home from Justin's I smiled. I can't believe we just kissed. My first kiss was with someone who was...somebody. Someone who was important.
I park mom's car in the driveway and frown when I notice a third car. I don't take it into much thought. I figured it was just one of mom's friends.
"Abby." Mom smiles. Her eyes were red as if she'd been crying.
"Mom, what's wrong?"
"Hey little sister." A cut in. My eyes dart up the stair case and I see Tony. Tony was here. I couldn't see his face yet because he was all the way up but he could see me.
"Wh-wh..." was all I could say.
"Suprised to see me?" His voice cracked.
A smile spread across my face. "Tony, I missed you. We missed you."
He chuckles and now he's walking down the stairs. But when he's standing face to face with me, my smile fades. He has thick bags under his eyes and his cheeks are sunken in. His hair isn't light brown anymore. It's black, as if he'd dyed it. Underneath his black t-shirt I can see a tattoo poking. One that wasn't there when we moved away. Tony was diffrent. He wasn't the same eighteen year old kid he was when we moved from Kentucky. He appeared to have a dark side and not a happy one like before. I guess two years can really change a person.
"I missed you guys too." He smiled, but I didn't.
Mom slips away, walking up the stairs while shaking her head. Then I hear her now muffled voice talking to dad. I take that as an oppurtunity to talk to Tony.
"What happened?" I whispered.
He stuffs his hands in his pockets and merely shrugs. "I've officially moved in with you guys."
My eyes widen. "You... moved in?"
"Yep."
"But what about Kentucky? What about school?"
Tony looks at me and smirks. Then he travels to the kitchen to get a glass of water. "You know you always did ask a lot of questions."
I smile, but only briefly.
"I haven't been in school for a year Abby. I've been involved with a lot of stuff that I'm not proud of. That's why I'm here."
I had a thousand questions to ask but I didn't want to overwhelm him.
"People are looking for me Abigail. I owe a lot of people a lot of money. It was either I come here with you guys..." he sips his water. "Or I'd be a dead man."
I felt my knees buckle. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I could already feel my eyes watering. "Tony." I say in a shaky voice. "How could you let this happen? What did mom and dad have to say?"
He just smiles, like everything he just said was some kind of joke. "Well, you saw mom. They're pissed. I'm lucky they're even letting me stay."
"Do you care about us?" I blurt out.
Tony sighs and places his glass on the counter. "I know you're upset, I get it. But you don't have to worry because everything will be okay. They don't know I'm here and they won't know." He travels next to me and slings his arm over my shoulder. "It's going to be okay little sister. I'll just find a normal job over here and I'll get the money back to the people I owe. I'll be fine."
I want to embrace Tony in a tight hug. I missed him so much but, I just can't. I'm so angry with him. How could he be so selfish and put so much pressure on mom and dad? I bet that's the only thing they'll be worrying about now.
