"Amari Isis Greene"
My mother hasn't said my whole government in so long I forgot my middle name was Isis. I walk into the living room to see my mother painting a picture of the goddess I was named after. She only paints when she's stressed or when she's thinking and then she sells them.

"Hey mommy, how was your day at work?"  I ask trying to lighten to mood which surprisingly has shifted from bad to a little bit better.

"Sit down" is all she says and that's exactly what I do because why would I disobey my black mother at a time like this. She turns around and for a second she looks almost proud.

"Amari, even though you did the right thing I have to be mad because we talked about this. You promised me that you weren't going to fight and you broke that promise."

"I know ma but she basically called me and my friends niggas and I wasn't gonna let her get away with that." I look away because I don't want to get a lecture about fighting and feeding into the stereotype white people already have on us etc. I've heard it so many times before I could look myself in the mirror and recite it to myself.

"You're growing up so much and I'm proud that you did the right thing. She hit you with her words I can't be mad." She turns back around and begins to paint her picture of Isis again.

"How much you think this ones gonna sell for Icee?" She's been calling me that since I was a baby. It's a shorter version of my middle name which she wanted to be my first name but my dad wanted to call me Amari.

Just like that we're back to normal. One thing about my mom, she never holds a grudge or stays angry for too long. She says it brings wrinkles and there's no reason to be mad at the past, as long as you learn from it that's all the matters. This has been a weird ass week but I'm not mad at it.

" I don't know a couple thousand maybe," I laugh cause that's alway the running joke. Manifest the amount it's truly worth and see where the money goes. "What do you want to eat tonight? We live in the city so we can literally get anything."

"Chinese? or do you want Caribbean food?" she wiggles her eyebrow as she gives me the option of two of my favorite food genres.

"We can do Chinese, can't go wrong with it," I smile because my mom knows me so well "I already know what you want so I'll order it once I find a place that meets both of our standards."

I run upstairs to my room and jump on my bed and I text the group chat that Jayce put me in yesterday during lunch.

Me: Yerrrrr did I use that right lmao

Jay: oh nahh who taught her how to yerr 😂

Zae: that would be me and I'm regretting it lol

Matt: YERRR SHAWTYY what's good

Sam: yoooo

good since we all here I have a question

Matt: nah he's not lying all the best ones are in the ghetto

Sam: there's one in crown heights so you don't have to go to ghetto ass Brownsville

Zae: watch ya mouth
