"Hell no." He says pressing the power button. He puts it face down but it rings again. He looks at the name on the phone. It looks like it's his mom. He sighs and picks up the phone
"Hola madre mía ¿qué lo qué" The conversation starts in Spanish
"Mi culpa era que estaba durmiendo cuando me llamaste." He pinches the bridge of his nose and huffs
"No, no se donde esta Ariella. Llámala."
"Mai. Si obviamente. Okay entiendo que lo maneje." He hangs up the phone and huffs.
"Bro! I can never just lay down." He slams his phone down annoyed.
"Is everything okay?" I ask leaning on my elbow looking at him.
"Yeah, my mom's just upset because my sister didn't call her after getting off of work." He rubs my face with his thumb.
His eyes scan my body and he bites his lip. "You look as good as you taste. Can I eat you again?"
"Kai focus on what's going on," I snap my fingers in front of his face and try not to smile. "Do you think she's okay?" I say watching him watch me.
He nods his head. "She probably got on the train and forgot to call. It happens all the time."
He puts his phone down and snakes his arms around me pulling me in tight when his phone rings again.
"Por el amor de Dios de mierda carajo." He picks up his phone again without looking to see whose calling and puts it on speaker. He lays it on his chest.
"What?"
"Aye mud where you at!?" His brothers voice rings out
"Busy, what's the word?"
"You heard niggas was shooting over on Atlantic?"
"Nah." He says rolling his eyes "Gango let me call you back, you heard."
"Nah nigga it's active, feel me, you know Ariella works over there. She call you?"
"Nah, Mami just called saying she didn't call when she got off of work. You talk to her?" He's sitting up in bed. He has a concerned look on his face.
"I tried calling her like 10 minutes ago. Chimi, I just watched Mir story. He posted a video of two girls fighting outside of the Target before one of my boys called me saying they was booming down there. One of the girls looked like Ariella."
I don't know what about that name caused his whole demeanor to change, but as soon as he heard it he was up and putting his jeans back on. "Are you closer? I'm in Flatbush right now and you know how PD loves to shut down streets."
"Yeah I'm at Grand Army right now. We bout to hit the stairs to the train."
"Igh, Imma call her. You go over there and see where she is. I'll be there soon." He hangs up the phone and calls his sister. The phone goes to voice message and he turns to me. I just got finished putting my clothes back on too.
"Is everything okay?" I ask. It's a dumb question but I'm hoping that he'll over explain so I can get some information. The look on his face says otherwise but he just nods his head.
"Yeah, I mean you heard the conversation, but I gotta go handle some things so I'm bout to dip."
I decide not to ask any questions but I keep everything I heard to memory and nod my head. He runs down the stairs and I follow him.
"Can I come with you?" I ask. I can see his brain running through however many scenarios before he shakes his head no.
"Nah mamas it's not safe and I would hate for your mother to hate me because I put you in harms way."
