Rin ran down the street as fast as she could, panting but refusing to let herself stop. "Luna is going to kill me."
Finally reaching her apartment she dashed up the stairs, she stopped at her door allowing herself to breathe. Her small hand curled around the door knob and she twisted it slowly and inched the door open. A relieved sigh escaped her when she saw that all the lights were off.
"Oh, thank god Luna must have gone to sleep already." She said in a soft whisper
That was when a lamp at the far end of the room kicked on, and in the couch next to it sat Luna, legs and arms crossed with a scowl on her face. "No, she in fact hasn't."
Rin froze in place, a chill crawling down her spine, goose bumps trailing along her arms. "Unnie?" She breathed before dropping to the ground in a bow. "Unnie, I'm sorry I came back so late. I lost track of time; I really do have an explanation though."
Luna chuckled at the small girl and shook her head. "Get off the ground weirdo. Come on let's get to the kitchen I'll make you some hot chocolate, you look like you're freezing."
Rin smiled rubbing at her ear before getting off the ground and following Luna to the kitchen. Rin sat down at one of the bar stools at the tall table while Luna boiled a pot of water.
"So, spill it, what is this explanation you have for coming home at one thirty in the morning?" Luna asked while she slowly stirred the liquid in the pot with a wooden spoon.
Rin shifted in her seat and took in a deep breath. She knew she was going to end up telling Luna everything anyway, she never kept anything from her friend. Even if she knew Luna would get worried about it, they both made a promised to each other to always tell the other everything no matter how bad it was.
"Well, I was walking around the park just like usual. It was really nice out if not a little cold, but that was mostly because of the breeze-" Words flowed from her mouth and she found herself getting quite off track.
"Rin! Focus." Luna called to her laughing.
Rin frowned slightly and nodded. "Right."
She scratched at her head before continuing. "Well while I was walking, I heard someone crying. And I was really curious, I'm usually out there alone whenever I go. Unless you come with me."
Luna perked up and glanced at Rin for a moment before going back to the pot. "And what did you do."
Rin shrank in her seat slightly and smiled innocently. "Well, you know. I, followed the sound through the trees."
Luna glared at Rin. "You just hear random crying at eleven o'clock at night and follow it?" She shuts off the stove and removed the pot, beginning to pour the liquid into two separate cups.
Rin shrugged and laughed nervously. "Well, yeah."
Luna smiled and rolled her eyes. "Oh, boy. What happened next?"
"When I finally found the source of the crying, I found a man sitting on a park bench beneath a tree. I was scared at first, but they seemed so sad. I knew they needed someone." Luna handed Rin one of the cups and she took a small sip.
Luna smiled fondly, nodding. Though she was worried for her she also felt really proud of the woman that Rin had become. Even after all she had been through her whole life, Rin was kind and trusting.
"I introduced myself and we talked for a while. He seemed really nice, though he seemed to have a really bad problem of listening to what others say about him a little too much." As Rin talked, she absentmindedly traced circles on the table with her finger. "I like to think I helped him, at least a little bit."
