You're my home

These had been the best few months of Buck's life. Of course, Eddie almost dying was hell, but everything that followed was bliss. Everything had changed and nothing had changed.

Just a month after Eddie came home from the hospital he had ended his relationship with Ana saying that he had had time to reflect and, as much as he cared for her, she just wasn't the one for him. As much as it had hurt Ana she understood and had said that she would always be there for him as a friend and she wished nothing but the best for him.

This was all happening around the same time Buck's relationship with Taylor had come to a close in a not nearly as mature way.

Buck had come home late again to Taylor perched at his counter with a furious expression on her face. Surprised but pleased to see her he crossed to her and leaned in for a kiss. When she turned her head and stood avoiding his lips, his brow wrinkled in confusion. He sat his keys down and asked her what was wrong. "You!" She said, spinning around to face him. "What-what are you talking about?" He asked. She sneered, face pinched in anger. "You're never around anymore! I can't even remember the last time I walked in here and didn't find it empty." Buck sighed and rubbed his hand across his face. "I know. I'm sorry. I've been at Eddie's, he needs a lot of help right now with Chrisopher and Carla can only do so much. They need me." Taylor had crossed her arms and with her mouth in a grim line said, "Did it ever occur to you that maybe I needed you too?" His stomach fell to his feet. It honestly never did. She was so strong and independent that he never even considered she'd need more of his time. "I'll try to be around more. I-I can see if Maddie would be able to hang out with Chris or may-" She put her hand up cutting him off. "Don't worry about it. I'm taking a job in New York, I leave tomorrow." He was stunned. All he could do was watch her with his mouth slightly agape as she reached around him to grab her keys and jacket from the counter. She turned to him one last time "Goodbye Buck." before closing the door between them forever. He had stood in his kitchen motionless for long minutes, confused. Confused as to why she didn't talk to him sooner, confused as to how she could just up and leave him knowing everything Buck had been through. Mostly though, he was confused as to why he wasn't more upset. Your girlfriend leaving you and moving across the country should hurt like a bitch, but this only stung.

If he would have known then what he knows now, it would have made a lot more sense. He had only been with her to fill a void created by not being able to have what - who - he really wanted. Eddie.

He had been in love with Eddie for so long he couldn't remember a time when his heart hadn't belonged to the other man. He never even knew he was falling for his best friend until one day he realized that his every waking moment was spent thinking about either Eddie or Christopher, the amazing curly headed blonde boy that stole his heart the second he had met him.

So Taylor had left and Buck didn't ever consider going after her. Instead, he had put himself back into his jeep and driven straight to Eddie's. When he confided in his friend about what had happened. Of course Eddie had felt guilty and insisted that he and Christopher were fine and that Buck should go find Taylor and stop her leaving before it was too late. Buck knew though, deep down, that he and Taylor weren't right for each other. So he stayed right there with his best friend and the boy he loved like his own son.

Over the following weeks something shifted. Buck couldn't put a name to what it was but everyone could tell. It drove him crazy until one night it hit him like a freight train.

He had just finished the dishes from dinner and was walking to the bedroom where Eddie was tucking in Chris when he heard Christopher talking. "My friend at school today asked if Buck was my other dad." That stopped Buck in his tracks. He leaned against the wall outside Chris' door. Eddie chuckled. "And what did you tell them?" Chris pouted when he answered. "I said no, that Buck was my dad's best friend, but that I love him a lot and I wish he was my dad too." Bucks air caught it his throat and it took everything he had to not choke and give away his position in the hallway. Eddie sighed and patted his son on the knee. "Yeah buddy, I do too." He leaned to kiss Chris before standing up. Buck quickly made his way to the kitchen and propped himself against the counter not trusting his legs to hold him up. Had he really heard that right? He knew Chris loved him, but like a father? He always loved him and thought of him as his own son, but for Chris to feel the same way… Then there was what Eddie had said. Could it be true? Buck never allowed himself to hope that Eddie would return his feelings and he had been okay with that; happy to be in their lives any way they'd have him. But if what Eddie said was true then there was a chance. The floor creaked as his friend made his way into the kitchen. He stopped short when he saw the look on Buck's face. "Is everything okay?" Without allowing himself to talk himself out of it, Buck crossed the room in a couple long strides, grabbed Eddie's face between his hands and crashed their mouths together. Buck felt his best friend gasp then place his hand on Buck's side, melting into the kiss. Buck had never felt anything as perfect as when he kissed Eddie, the smell of his cologne and shampoo, the heat of his breath and the dig of his fingers, it felt right. It felt like home. The kiss only lasted a few seconds but by the time Buck pulled away both men were breathless and flushed. "What-" Eddie tried to say, catching his breath. "I heard. I heard you talking to Christopher." Eddie's eyes widened almost comically and he began saying something but Buck stopped him with another kiss. "I love you. I love you more than I've ever loved anyone and I think I have for a very long time." The smile that split across Buck's face when Eddie said that could have lit the dark for a thousand miles. "You do? I love you too, so much. I never thought, I never hoped that you would feel the same way. Why didn't you say anything?" Eddie laughed then and said, "Because I'm a stupid, stupid man." Buck grabbed Eddie's chin between his thumb and index finger. "But you're my stupid man." And kissed him again.
