I laid still with my face on the grass.

My whole body ached like the day I defeated the pigeons but I didn't pass out. That was a start.

A new sensation was the burning of my hands. They were shaking badly. The ring on my finger was sparking.

I heard Lyla sniffling quietly. A breeze rustled the leaves of the far trees and the crickets chirped.

I tried to push myself up but my body didn't agree with me. It felt like was going to crumble into dust just the way I killed the morbids. I groaned.

A pair of hands wrapped around my arms and steadied me, helping me stand.

When I looked up to see Ryan, my eyes widened and I pushed him away. I fell back, my head throbbing.

His black eyes stared down at me with more concern than usual. He kneeled in front of me.

"Sky, it's okay." he said softly.

"No, no. It's not." I trembled. My voice was brittle. "Don't come near me. Don't ever come near me again."

He furrowed his brows. "Sky-"

"You're not going to die because of me!" I snapped, moving back. "Get away! Don't follow me!"

Ryan's worried expression turned into a scowl and he scoffed.

"Wow. Do you think you're the only friend I have?"

"I'm the only friend who ever puts you in danger!"

He shook his head.

"Remember when Chelsea asked me to teach her drive a motorcycle?"

"That's not-"

"Jerry tried to feed me poison countless times."

"He's not a friend."

"How about when Lloyd asked me to stall his father with stealing his chicken?"

"That . . ." My head filled with the vision of Ryan panicking with a chicken in his arms and an old fat guy chasing him.

I glared. "Don't make me laugh. I know I have terrible focus."

He gave a small smile and glanced at his hands. "Then, there's dad."

I couldn't hold my stare. My eyes fell to my ring. I twisted it.

It was amazing that the ring never melted, even with my powers. It was only sparking blue light that I was sure came from Leonora's touch.
