CHAPTER XXIII(EMOTIONS)
Just like every nightmare that I had, I awoke with beads of sweat and my pulse in hijack. Just in time Leo knocked on the door and informed me that we are about to arrive at the port and that I should start to prepare. I only nodded on his direction. Every minute felt like a timed bomb. Every time a new memory emerges, it is always followed by that nightmare. I am always brought back to that place, in that cold, to that house filled with warm blood and the searing heat of the burned house. But at this point, I am not sure if the burned feeling was because of the fire or the cold.
I remembered the necklace now and why it felt so important. It was a gift. And the only proof that I am indeed Anastasia Nicholaevna Romanova of Russia. I did not know how to process the information. I wasn't sure how to react upon finding the fact that my grandmother survived that horrendous event and that after all those years, she was also searching for me.
"Anya." I heard Dimitri call "It's time. Let's get you to your grandmother now shall we?"
"Are you that eager to get me out of your sight?" I joked.
"I wouldn't wish of it." I heard him say.
Nikolai entered the cabin and told me to follow him up the deck. There were still eyes everywhere and we needed to get out from here as soon as possible. "I feel like were being watched dear. So might as well be careful and blend in with the people. Christian and Dimitri will go down the ship first and scan the area, you my dear sweet child will be accompanied by myself and Leo."
"No need to be scared dear one. No harm will come to you." Leo added.
"I am not scared. Just weirded out that I am not in Russia anymore." I replied
Nikolai now changed into a very good suit that matched Leo's. I was wearing a pale blue dress with a pointed collar and a puff sleeve with lace at the ends. My hair was up in a half ponytail. I look decent if you ask me myself.
"Do you think she will be able to recognize me? " I asked
"She loves you with everything that she have Anastasia. She will be able to recognize you. Do no worry." Leo soothed.
"I'm nervous."
"Do not jinx it out little one." Nikolai said
"I did not said anything. I just told you that I am nervous."
"Do you not like Dimitri?" Nikolai suddenly asked that made me trip in my dress and flushing my cheeks with color.
"Why would you think that I do not like him?" I asked back
"I know you do like him dear one, but what I wanted to know is if you like him as a man?"
"Nikolai what are you on about?" I knew exactly what he meant, but I want him to stop. Apparently I made things worse.
I hear Leo snort beside me "Come on my dear Anya, you don't recognize the look in young Dimitri's eyes every time he looks at you and follows your every move in the room? It is quite obvious dear. He is starting to take concern over someone he claimed he did not care of."
I knew what he meant. I saw how Dimitri looked at me. It was more than just concern. And I knew that what I was feeling was the same. But, I do not have the time for that. Not now.
"Let's just focus in arriving to my grandmother's house" with that I left the two men and walked out of the port as if my heels were on fire.
I knew what I felt, but I refuse to acknowledge it. I do not want it.
"Is something wrong Anya?" I heard Dimitri ask. His voice laced with worry.
"Nothing I'm just nervous."
I felt his warm fingers take a hold of my arm, gentle and fragile. As if he was holding my every being in his palm. Romance was never part of this plan. Yet, here I was. Not entirely sure if I have fallen for the him or if I have fallen for him.
"It will be fine Anya."
"Don't jinx it." I heard him chuckle beside me.
