Four years since the two of you had been in here. In the crystal that kept you safe. You were able to listen to everything. Including what people said while in the room. And also Eren, what was happening in the world? The only thing that felt right in the world was the fact that you were beside Annie. The crystal however was a different story. It was after Eren spoke to everyone that the crystal seemed to lose the energy it had. You felt like you were drowning in a thick liquid. You felt Annie's grip loosen as the normally cool crystal got warmer. You gasped loudly when fresh air rushed into your lungs. You coughed out liquid that was stuck in your mouth. You laid on a hard surface, vision blurry, and unable to move. Your head pounded with a headache as you tried to look around. You heard another person coughing, and the sound of gravel being shuffled around.
"Y/N? Are you okay" a strained voice of your lover asked.
You went to reply but any energy you had in the crystal had been drained. You took shallow breaths trying to catch your breath. The pain in your chest started to disappear with every second.
Familiar slender hands picked you up and brushed the hair out of your face.
"We have to move, can you get up?" She asked.
You shrugged and tried to sit up. You looked at Annie and saw she looked equally as drained as you did. If you had any energy you would laugh but instead you sat up, and faced Annie.
"I'm fine, don't worry about me." You muttered using the wall to stand up. You held out your hand for Annie.
"This crystal stuff is nasty, let's get out of here"
"You don't look well" she muttered, grabbing your hand.
You chuckled, "neither do you, princess"
Annie turned a light pink, and rolled her eyes. She glared out you before you helped her out of the room.
"We need to get somewhere safe, somewhere out of here." She said.
"I know" You huffed the pain in your chest returning.
"Are you hurting"
You groaned, your knees locking, "I'm fine"
Annie tugged you Into a room, and sat you down. She beads of sweat appeared on your head.
"It's nothing Annie" you whispered hand clutching your chest, "How are you?"
Annie scoffed, rubbing the sweat off your face with her sleeve. "Shut up"
You hummed resting your head on her shoulder.
Echoing footsteps could be heard down the hall.
"Stay here" Annie hissed, getting up and going to the door. Your head hung low as you watched Annie leave.
Annie stood by the door leaning against it waiting for whoever was coming to get in. The door slowly opened, Annie brought her ring up to the person's neck.
"Don't move," She said to a startled Hitch.
However Hitch didn't listen she grabbed Annie by the arm and flipped her over and on to her stomach.
"Annie" Hitch muttered.
Annie groaned exhausted, but her eyes went straight to your slumped figure.
"Annie?" You huffed trying to get up but immediately crumpled.
Hitch watched Annie's eyes fill with anger.
Maybe Annie wasn't a heartless nobody, but she still was someone who betrayed Hitch.
Hitch let go of Annie and watched her crawl over to you, and pulled you close.
"Are you okay?"
"Annie I'm fine. I'm just not like you."
She looked at you, her eyebrows raised.
You chuckled lightly sitting up, "I'm not a shifter"
"Right"
You looked at Annie worried but she only smiled and pulled you into a hug.
"We are both safe for now but we need to leave"
"I'll help you!" Hitch said.
"What?"
"I said I will help you guys leave"
Hope spread through your heart, "Thank you"
You and Annie helped each other up and followed Hitch down the hall. Maybe things weren't going to get better immediately, but maybe things weren't always going to be terrible. Maybe you and Annie could live in peace after the war.
