A Key To Another World

Chapter five

Zoe and Michael hiked for hours through the forest. While walking, Michael decided to listen to some music. It was now noon and they were both hungry since they hadn't even had breakfast yet.

Man, am I hungry!

Michael: "Zoe, can't we take a break for a few minutes? I'm starving here!"

Zoe: "Well, to get a good meal, we have to find something to eat first. We're almost there and I have plenty of food in my shelter.... Uh, Michi? Where did you go?"

Michael: "I'm over here!"

Zoe turned around and spotted Michael sitting on a fallen tree eating some snacks he had brought from his home world.

Zoe: "Are you kidding me!? You had food all along!? Why didn't you tell me that!?"

Zoe stomped up to Michael and sat down next to him. She grabbed his backpack, which was already open, and stuck her whole head inside while sniffing for something edible.

Michael: "Zoe, stop it! There are a lot of important things in there and I don't want you to break them. Give me back my backpack and I'll give you something to eat."

Zoe: "Hmph!"

She threw Michael's backpack back at him and he was just able to catch it. Michael took out two candy bars and handed them to Zoe. She sniffed them for a few seconds and a delicious smell she had never smelled in her life hit her nose.

Zoe: "I've never seen anything like this before, but it smells appetizing. What is that anyway?"

Michael: "It's chocolate, a very common candy in my home world."

Zoe: "Ohhhh, candy! I love candy!"

She opened her mouth and threw the two candy bars in as she devoured them like a hungry animal.

Damn! What an animal!

Zoe: "Heyw, Iw hearth thath!"

She spoke back to him with her mouth full. With one gulp, the two chocolate snack bars landed in her stomach.

Zoe: "Ahh, so yummy! Say, you have more, don't you?"

Michael: "No, those were the last ones. Uh, Zoe?"

Zoe: "Yes?"

Michael: "Actually, you should unwrap the wrappers first before you eat them."

Zoe: "Oh!"

Michael pulled a can of soda out of his backpack and opened it. He was about to take a sip, but Zoe caught his attention because she was curious.

Zoe: "What's that?"

Michael: "You mean that?"

Michael pointed to his can of soda and Zoe nodded in response.

Michael: "That's a drink called soda. I think you'll like it. Do you want to try it?"

Zoe: "Yes, please."

Michael pulled another can of soda out of his backpack and tossed it to Zoe. She caught it with one of her paws and looked at it more closely. She sniffed at it before considering how to open the can.

Zoe: "Michi? How did you open yours?"

Michael: "It's actually quite simple. You just have to- Wait Zoe! Don't shake it like that!"

Zoe: "I think I got it!"

Zoe managed to open the can with her sharp teeth, but then a lot of soda splashed in her face.

Zoe: "Ah! My eyes!"

Michael: "I warned you."

Zoe wiped her face with her furried arms and took a sip from her soda can. Her ears perked up and she took another sip.
