Keefe was thinking about his conversation with Ro, trying to find a loophole in her threat. Until then, he supposed he'd have to keep risking people's safety, and all because of his annoying bodyguard.
...
"Oh my goodness, I can't stand it anymore! If you don't talk, I'm going to tell Sophie!" Keefe's eyes went wide and his face was red. 'Please don't...' "Hmm... nah." 'Really, Romhilda?' Her response was an intense glare.
"Of course, Funkyhair." 'hmmph.' "I'm going to go downstairs now, and spill out my guts to your both oblivious and obvious girlfriend!" "Don't you dare!"
She sighed in relief. "Ah, finally!" "So, basically, if I stop talking and start writing, you tell her?" "Ooh, I wasn't going to make you do it forever, but great idea!"
Keefe groaned.
Ro smirked.
"Now go tell Blondie you're talking again!"
...
Sometimes he had no idea why he hadn't kicked her out of the house. Oh yeah, she knew every single secret he had and ogre enzymes and bets and threats and- need I say more?
"Keefe?" "That's me!" "It's... it's good to have you back." "Good to be back, Lord of Snuggles." Sophie giggled as Fitz gave his friend an epic best friend look.
"Really?" "Of course! Or I could call you Chandelier Head." Fitz just rolled his eyes, and Keefe wiggled his eyebrows.
"Ooooor I could go after Dex and call you wonderboy. Or Fitzroy. Or Fitzy. Or just plain Fitz, but that's boring."
"Ooh, or Fitzipoo!" "Really, Biana?" "Of course, brother of mine! You need a decent Keefe nickname!" "Your sister has a point there, Fitz," Sophie said, trying not to giggle.
"You too?" "Yep! Fitzipoo it is!" "Elwin. Help." "You're on your own, Chandelier Head."
Everyone cracked up - including him. "That was awesome." Biana laughed. "It really was!" Sophie replied through giggles. "Really, guys?"
"Fitz, my nicknames are amazing. You can't deny it!" "Keefe..." "Yeah?" "Nothing. Not like you'd listen." Sophie popped in, "He really wouldn't, Fitz." "Oh, finally!" "Nope, it's Fitzipoo now. "Biana!" "Yes?" "Oh, why bother?"
Ro was laughing in her corner, Fitz was rolling his eyes at everyone, Sophie and Biana were giggling like nobody had ever called him Fitzipoo before, Keefe was just smirking furiously, taunting him.
He was finally back.
Oh, you innocent children, thinking this is just a sweet little friend scene with no angst... oh no. tis but a preparation, children. Tis but a preparation.
