Y/N's POV
"Anne! Y/N!" My eyes fluttered open at the sound of Miss Cuthbert's voice. I quickly jumped out of bed and pulled the covers neatly back to their place before rushing over to where my clothes lay folded from the night before. I was just doing up the last button of my shirt when Miss Cuthbert walked in.

"Good morning ma'am." I said as politely as I could. She looked at me and then to Anne's empty, unmade bed and missing clothes before running out of the room. I quickly grabbed my boots and hurried downstairs.

"She's gone, Anne has gone. Check the silverware." I sat on the stairs pulling my boots on while I listened. Surely Miss Cuthbert couldn't think Anne had run away in the night. I didn't know where she was but I was sure she wouldn't have just left me would she? I followed both of the Cuthbert's outside to see Anne, dressed, hair full of flowers, jumping down from the chicken coop with a basket of eggs.

"Eggs! That's one chore done. Now I've met all the chickens so you don't need to make any introductions." I ran up to her and cut her off with a hug burying my face into her shoulder.

"I thought you left me here on my own." I mumbled. Anne carefully placed the basket on the ground before wrapping her arms round me.

"I wouldn't leave you silly. I just had to make up for being untidy. I couldn't sleep so I thought I'd get started on doing chores." I let go of Anne and smiled at her before realising that the Cuthbert's were both stood behind me.

"I'll let the milkers out to graze."

"I'll have breakfast ready soon, Y/N you'll come and help me."

"May I take these blossoms up to mine and Y/N's room?" Anne asked.

"No. You don't want your room or your person cluttered up with flowers. You should have left them on the tree in the first place." I smiled as Miss Cuthbert talked before turning and walking back to the house to help her prepare breakfast.

After breakfast, Miss Cuthbert set me and Anne learning the Lord's Prayer while she took the washing down from the line.

"I like this prayer it's lovely. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name!" Anne recited dramatically. I was sat against a tree stump studying the lines while Anne whirled around speaking them like lines of poetry.

"Just get on with the business of learning it. Regardless of the outcome here you both should have something to where apart from the flimsy bits of business. I think I've got some leftover cotton somewhere that could work."

"You're going to make us dresses?" Anne gasped.

"You both need something suitable that fits you." Miss Cuthbert replied, looking at me when she said the words suitable.

"A new dress!" Anne was ecstatic dreaming of frills and flounces and petticoats and puff sleeves. Me on the other hand, I was not happy at the prospect of having to wear a dress. My thoughts were soon interrupted by Anne "Y/N, what's wrong, are you not excited about a new dress?"

"I don't wear dresses." I said playing with the messy hem of my shorts to prove the point.

"Why don't you?" Miss Cuthbert asked me suddenly interested in our conversation.

"I don't mean to be rude by not being excited I just don't like wearing dresses. They make me uncomfortable." Miss Cuthbert smiled gently at me as a spoke and placed a hand on my back as I stood up.

"Then maybe I can make you a new shirt and some trousers. Those shorts won't do much against the cold here."

"You... you're not going to make me wear a dress?" I was shocked.
