The sun didn't feel so hot when it was combined with the fresh winds of the Atlantic Ocean. Jahne leaned her back against the railing of the boat, closing her eyes she breathed in deeply allowing shallow breaths to escape her lips. To say she was nervous was an understatement. The small group had boarded the cargo boat an hour ago with the plan of making it to the island in two hours. After receiving a tongue lashing from Chantel and Danielle for not having let anyone know she made it safely she called her father for the same reasons. They all wished her well and told her to talk to them when she could but she knew it would be awhile before that would happen so she savored the moment while she could.
Feeling a presence by her Jahne opened her eyes to Mr. Ngo leaning his hip against the railing beside her. His eyes were cast to the ocean and a small smile played on his lips.
"You look like a man in love Mr. Ngo" Jahne said watching the content look on his face.
"I basically grew up on these waters" he says still looking out into the water before casting his dark eyes to her. "My father was a fisherman and I often times went out with him" he turns fully against the railing leaning his forearms on top. Jahne mimicked his movement turning around and looked out to the surrounding water. It truly was beautiful, the way it sparkled like it had secrets only it was allowed to know.
"I imagine you must have enjoyed that" Jahne responds smiling at his memory of boyhood.
"Actually...I hated it." He laughs shaking his head. "I thought it wasn't fair that I had to spend hours on the water helping my father catch fish instead of playing with all the other school kids in my neighborhood" he smirks down at jahne whose face sat in a state of confusion.
"It took growing up and loosing my father for me to really reflect on the life lessons he taught me by having me be out here with him" A sad smile plays on his lips as he looks forward again. "Now I would give anything to go fishing with him again but I'm grateful because most boys didn't spend much time with their father like I did and while I wished I could be in the streets playing football they envied me for the time I got to spend with my father...funny how that works"
Jahnes heart broke at hearing his story and made her think about her own father. He was her world and after losing her mother she knew not to take her time with him for granted.
"I'm sorry about you losing your father... that must have been hard" Jahne says laying her hand on top of his, giving a quick squeeze. "I lost my mother so I understand something about losing a parent"
Mr. Ngo rests his other hand on top of hers gently running his thumb along it. Jahne had meant for her action to be comforting so she hoped he didn't see it as anything more. In the sensitivity of the moment she didn't see it as appropriate to move her hand back or to react.
"For a while it was hard but now I just feel grateful for who my father was. I'm sorry you loss your mother, she raised an amazing daughter" he says looking into her eyes. She could see something in his eyes...maybe interest, curiosity, lust or all of it in one. Either way Jahne was not one to mix business with pleasure so she retreated her hand discreetly and looked back at the water.
"Same for me...it was hard but I'm grateful too. Your father also raised a great young man" she offered her compliments back innocently. She could tell he was going to say something else but was interrupted by the captain.
"Sir, we should be reaching shore in thirty minutes" the captain told Mr. Ngo who nodded before turning back to Jahne.
"Once we reach shore I'll go ahead and go with you to the camping grounds to ensure you're introduced to your team and to make sure you get settled" he explains. "I won't be staying but if you need anything your team will show you how to get in contact with me. I will admit this is a pretty remote island as I'm sure you know it wont be very easy to contact family and friends while on this expedition" he says but Jahne already figured as much but just nods.
