Lighting painted the sky
and thunder roared its song.

She didn't know why,
but there was something wrong.

Something was odd,
just not quite right,
that one stormy night.

She grabbed her blanket
and covered her gown,
before she silently
went down.

She sneaked through the kitchen,
and right out the door,
hearing more
than one loud snore.

She ran through the meadow
and climbed that hill,
hoping she
would find him still.

Her heart rejoiced
when she saw his snout
and his whipping tail
banished her doubt.

Their hearts didn't
longer roam;
she promptly brought
the dog back home.
