Knocks echoed throughout the house as I went to stand up and check who it was at the other end of the door. We weren't expecting any visitors or mail since we hadn't ordered anything.

"Perhaps it's just one of those charity leaflet people?" I thought to myself, ignoring the annoying, persistent knocks and going back to sit down. But suddenly, the window flew open and I was met with a letter on my lap.

"What the hell?! Winds must be strong today I guess," I mumbled whilst opening the old-looking letter curiously. Inside it read:

Dear Miss Y/N Crouch,
We are pleased to inform you that you have a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Students will be required to report to the Chamber of Reception upon arrival. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment.
Term Begins on 1 September. We await your owl by no later than 31 July.

Yours Sincerely,
Minerva McGonagall
Deputy Headmistress

The first thing I thought was that this must be someone else's letter for a fan club of a book series, but then I remembered how my name was written on it so I came to the conclusion that it was all just some kind of prank. That was until the back door came swinging open to reveal I dare say a man, who looked above 8 foot tall! A loud scream escaped my mouth as my mother came rushing down the stairs to my aid.

Well to be exact, an Adoptive mother. I was left at a very young age at my now parent's doorstep and they've cared for me ever since or so I've been told.

"Cool ye' jets now," the tall thing said. I could barely make out where its mouth was due to the overgrown beard which covered its lower face.

"I-I'll call the police if you don't leave this insta-" As soon as I had reached the last syllable in my sentence I was cut off.

"OI" my mother exclaimed "Are you trying to scare the poor girl?" Confusion was written all across my face, my mother spoke to this beast as if she had known it for so long.

"Right, so is anyone going to explain what's going on, or am I just left to assume this is some kind of family gathering?" I asked. Calmly, my mother sat me down and explained how they had really "adopted" me.

"The night was still," she began "Your father had to go out for some last-minute work at the office so I was left all alone. Well, that was until I heard a frantic knock at the door, an old.. friend of mine came holding a child and begged me to take them in. She said that it was better for the child here, placed them in my arms, and vanished into the night never to be heard from again. That child was you my dear, and your mother was something called a Witch. Your father, probably a wizard and now you get to flourish in an environment where you belong. Hogwarts."

Speechless. That's what I was. Of course, you always have fantasies of these kinds of things but never actually expect them to become reality.

"Wait I have so many questions," I stuttered "So are you and Dad one of these wizards and witches? Did you enroll me in Hogwarts? Why didn't you tell me all this time? And are you sure this isn't a prank?"

My mother chuckled "Yes I am one of these Witches, I did not enroll you but I'm a bit baffled you didn't receive a letter back when you were 11 years old," she shoots the beast a look.

"Well ye' see..erm..I don't quite think it would be best to say around..It says nervously whilst eyeing me slightly from the side.

"I suppose so anyways my darling, I know this can be quite shocking but I need to know, are you up for it?" Mother asked softly.

I didn't know if I was up for it or I even believed anything which they were saying. Although this, a part of me knew that this was to be.

"Of course," I replied. "I want to go to Hogwarts."
