The sun shining on my face was enough of a reminder to close the curtains at night.
It was only six thirty in the morning but I had been conditioned to wake up early for chores. Deciding against going back to sleep, I slip out of bed and into the connected bathroom. The tile was freezing on my feet and I quickly step onto the floor mat.
The cool water from the sink helped wash away the remaining lull of sleep from my eyes. I had no idea what to expect for the day.
Changing into simple clothes, I sit on the edge of the bed and debate whether I stay in the room and wait to be called, or go find Casey. I hadn't been told what to do, or what was going to happen.
A knock startled me out of my thoughts. "River?"
I quickly get up and open the door. Casey had a small smile on his face as he looked at me. "Good morning, Casey."
"Good morning, River. I didn't actually expect you to be awake." He motioned me to follow him.
"I always get up early to start working, so you don't have to worry about me being late!" I didn't want him to think I'd start slacking off.
"Oh I don't doubt it." He turned his head away, coughing a little. When he looked at me again, he was smiling. He was laughing at me.
We walked downstairs together and he motioned me into the kitchen. It smelled faintly of bacon, and I feel a little guilty when I realize he had to make himself breakfast.
"Coffee?" He offered, holding up a pot.
"No, thank you." I smiled, standing by the doorway.
He nodded, pouring his own and sitting at the table. He beckons me over and I kneel beside his chair. It felt comfortable being with him.
"On the chair, River." I frowned but obeyed, climbing up onto the chair. "You don't need to be on the floor anymore, I'm not that strict."
I wanted to tell him I liked being on the floor, it was comforting when a Dom would reach down and pet my head. But I only nodded, "Yes, Casey."
He sighed, looking me over. "We'll come back to that. But I wanted to talk to you, because I have to go to work in an hour."
I nodded and he took a moment to take a sip of his coffee. The steam rising up in curling motions was a small distraction.
"Now, you can either come with me or you can stay here. Neither is really fun, I admit." He shrugged, taking another long drink.
"What would you like me to do?" I ask quietly, drawing circles on my thigh.
"To choose. You can relax and read here, or come help with busywork. I assume you can read and you understand your numbers?"
My face burned with embarrassment, of course I knew how to read. "Yes."
"Good. So?"
"I-I'd like to come and be useful. Do I call you Sir at work?"
"You can, since it's a professional setting." He got up to clear his cup. "Would you like to eat before we go? There's some left overs from breakfast in the microwave, I didn't know if you'd be hungry."
I felt my heart melt a little. It was such a simple gesture, but it meant a lot. "Thank you, Sir."
I reheated the food after he showed me how to work the microwave and sat down to eat while he went to shower. After I was sure he was gone, I slid onto the floor and finished the food in content silence.
