Ultimately we decided on watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy, both of us knowing we weren't going anywhere tomorrow if I ended up liking it. He practically ran to start the movie when I told him I had never seen it, solidifying our plan for the day.

"Now I know they seem long and intimidating, but I promise they're worth it!" He natters on excitedly. It was adorable to watch.

"Would you like me to prep any snacks for the movie, Casey?" He thinks about it before shaking his head.

"No, you come sit and watch. I'll grab the snacks." I hesitate, wanting to sit and watch but it was a huge part of me to want to go do things for him. "River."

I'm snapped out of my thoughts and look at him. "Yes, Casey?"

"Sit. Now." He points to the couch, using a voice that made a shiver run down my spine. I obey and sit down, quietly watching the main menu scenes play over and over until he comes back.

He hands me a blanket and sets a container of popcorn between us. I can see he also has a basket of candies on his other side. I hadn't had sweets much before, usually only as a treat for good behavior.

He patted himself down and then searched the couch, looking for the remote. I smile and silently point to the table in front of us. He rolls his eyes and smiles, picking it up. "Alright, ready for your life to be changed?"

"Absolutely!"

The end of the first movie made me feel like I needed some time just wrapped in a blanket. I breathed out a long sigh, leaning back in the couch.

"Thoughts so far?" He turns to look at me, resting his head against the couch.

"Bathroom break and then we start the next movie?"

"Mm I suppose." He looks at his watch and stretches. "I think we are due for a lunch break though. I can order in?"

"I'm happy to make you something if you'd prefer." I offer, mindlessly folding the blanket back up.

"Remember, River, I told you I'm looking for a companion, not a servant."

I nod, though slightly disappointed. I wanted to feel useful and without a task, it felt like I was always on edge. He gives me a sympathetic look and stands up.

"Come on, go to the bathroom and I'll have you order us lunch." He offers a hand and I take it, letting him help me up from the couch. It was small, but I appreciated the small order nonetheless.

I went to the bathroom and splashed some water on my face after seeing how flushed I was. After I pee, I wash my hands and stare at my face in the mirror for a minute. I hadn't taken the time to look at myself in the mirror in a good long while. It wasn't a lack of mirrors, more just a lack of interest in my own looks.

A plain face with grey eyes stared back at me and I huff, turning the light off and closing the door behind me as I exit. I didn't see Casey in the living room so I wander into the kitchen. He was standing at the kitchen counter munching on a red vine, staring down at his phone.

"Hey." He motions me over. "What kind of food are you in the mood for?"

"Pasta?"

He nods, scrolling away on his phone. He seems to find something that intrigues him, taps around and then hands it to me. I had never handled such an expensive phone before, it made me nervous to hold. I look at the screen and see a menu that he explains, pointing at certain things he recommends. I make my pick and he takes the phone back, tapping a few more things before slipping it in his pocket.
