I walked down the hallway and found Alex waiting for me. His face lit up when he saw me, and he grabbed my hand. "Come with me." I giggled and followed him.
He brought me to a room beyond the pit that I had never seen before. "Where are we?"
"I found this room while exploring the other day." He sat down and I sat down next him. He put his arm around me and I grabbed his other hand and held it between my hands. "I thought it could be our special place."
I looked up at him and we locked eyes. We just stayed like that for what seemed like forever. And then his lips were on mine and all my worries melted away. I forgot about being Divergent, passing the final test, my fears- everything. I just focused on him. I felt like myself when I was with him. Not someone I wanted to be, or who people thought I was. Just me.
I pulled away and looked down, blushing. We settled back into the position we were in before, his arm around me, his hand in mine, and I rested my head on his shoulder.
"Ana?"
"Yeah?"
"I really like you."
"Me too."
"Will you be my girlfriend?"
I chuckled. "You beat me to it. I was gonna ask you to be my boyfriend."
He laughed. "I'll take that as a yes."
We stayed there for a while, not speaking, just comforted by each others' presence. Finally, we had to go for dinner. As we walked to the pit, hand in hand, I realized that I didn't care whether I became Dauntless or Factionless. As long as I was with Alex, it didn't matter where I ended up.
