Anastasia's POV
We marched down to the Pit and saw that everyone was lining up getting their guns.
I felt Ara stiffen behind me. She needs to control it. She can do it. I know she can.
She relaxed and I calmed down. That episode was shorter than the last. She's doing it. I smiled in spite of the situation and we grabbed our guns.
We walked out and boarded the train. I grabbed Ara's hand and she took a shaky breath. I squeezed her hand.
I looked around and spotted Angie and Evan next to each other. I looked in their eyes. Not divergent. The same could be said for Melody.
I searched the train for Alex and found him three rows behind me. I felt like a ton of bricks were being dumped on my head. He was under the simulation as well.
I found James next to him and my face lit up. I elbowed Ara and pointed to James. Divergent. She breathed a sigh of relief.
I saw Tris move towards Four. She's gonna get herself killed. When she reached him, I saw their hands intertwine. I felt a pang in my chest. They were together. Not fighting, both divergent... Neither of which could be said for me and Alex, and only part of which could be said for Ara and her confusing love triangle of hurt and pain.
We got off the train on the outskirts of Abnegation and began marching into the city. Ara and I exchanged worried looks as we tried to blend in. James stayed right behind us- no doubt he knew we were divergent.
We turned a corner and Ara leaned in.
"So what's the plan?"
Before I could answer, she slipped into the simulation. I felt James stiffen behind me at the same time. Oh, no. Not him too.
I sighed and waited for them to come out of it. They had tried to walk into an Abnegation house but I held them back. James' lasted longer than Ara's because she was learning to control it.
Once they were back to normal, I leaned in, making sure we were out of earshot of any Dauntless.
"We need to go back to Dauntless and find where they're controlling the simulation from. No doubt Jeanine is involved- she's the Erudite leader and she was at my final test."
Across the way, I saw Four and Tris get caught. Four was shoved into a car and Tris was led away. A Dauntless leader spotted us and shouted.
"We need to run. Now!"
