I lay in the chair, preparing for my second fear simulation. Four gave me a funny look before injecting me with the serum.
I had all the same fears as before. Nothing's changed, and I didn't expect them too. But this time, I was more in control. I didn't let my fears get to me as much as they did last time.
When I got to my final fear, my heart broke when I saw Alex there.
"It's okay, Ana. You can do it. You're strong."
But I wasn't. Tris appeared and told me the same thing as last time. I couldn't do it. I turned around and aimed my gun at Tris. I pulled the trigger.
I snapped back into reality, seeing Four staring at me, confused.
"How did you do that?"
"Do what?"
He scoffed, standing up. "How did you control the simulation? You didn't face any of your fears. You forced the simulation to ignore the fears and move on to the next one. How?"
I was shocked. What was he talking about? "I- I don't know what-"
"Divergent."
"How did you-"
"I've seen Divergent. But never like this. What were your test results?"
"Erudite..." I paused and took a deep breath. "And Amity, Candor, Abnegation... and Dauntless."
Four stared at me in shock. "All five?" I nodded. "That's never happened before."
I looked down. "Yeah. I know. My test administrator told me."
"Does anyone else know about this? Your friends, family?"
"No. No one," I said, guilty for not telling Ara.
"Good. Keep it that way. This is extremely dangerous." He seemed to have a thought. "But there is someone you can trust. Another Divergent. You can talk to her, maybe you can give each other tips. I'm helping her out a little, on the side. She can pass it on to you. She's definitely not as divergent as you are, but it might help."
"Who is it?"
"Tris."
