Finally, the beginning of September arrived for the students of Hope's Peak Academy, which meant that the practical exams were finally upon them as well. Nobody was looking forward to them at all, and everyone had practiced nonstop over the summer so to not fail.

The exams took place in the gym, just as it did last year. But due to the events that occurred last year - namely laxatives, giant puppies, and an explosion - anyone entering the gym had to be patted down before entering and any bags brought in had to be searched. Nagito Komaeda was still suspended for that stunt.

This year, the classes were even more nervous about impressing the judges because of the previous year. Setsuka had some girls on one side of her, Mikado and Nikei on her other side, and all of them knew that they needed to do something bigger than last year's performance to impress the judges.

Setsuka nudged Nikei with her elbow, a nervous smile clear on her face. "Hey, are you ready for this? I'm not," she confessed. "We have to be a lot better than last year, and there's the possibility we might fail..."

"Don't worry about it, Setsuka. We'll be fine. The judges are probably just looking for amazement rather than improvement anyway, they want media circus." Nikei patted her arm for reassurance. "I mean, I get why you're so jittery. Your surname comes first in our grade, but I think that you'll do alright. I mean, it's not like you're the first in the whole school going, that would be the third-year students."

"Guys, will you be quiet? It's starting!" Mikado whispered to them, and the duo shut their mouths immediately. The judges walked up to their seats on stage, and the audience gave them a round of applause while the students began to dread having to present for them. From the side, Koichi Kizakura came onto the stage with a microphone.

"Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the seventy-eighth year of practical exams! Today, Japan's crème de la crème will preform acts that show that they really are the future of mankind! Without further ado, let's give it up for Class 76, as it is their last practical exam at the academy!" The crowd went wild with applause, and the judges waiting for them to calm down before calling the first Ultimate student from Class 76 up. There were only thirteen students present because of the triple expulsion last year. Even Koichi seemed to want to get things done faster because of last year.

"Oh god, I'm so nervous," Setsuka muttered, gripping her knees as she sat hunched over. Nikei sympathetically rubbed her back, and she grit her teeth as she worried about the judges finding out about her eye. She hoped that she practiced enough that she wouldn't need to use her eye. One member of Class 76 had gotten expelled for not presenting to expectations, and every student was beginning to worry about themselves.

Finally, it was her turn to go up to the stage and present, having the first surname in her grade. A couple assistants were moving a pool table into the middle of the gym, and Koichi went back up on stage. "And now, we're getting to the second-year students! Everyone, please give it up for the Ultimate Billiards Player, Setsuka Chiebukuro!" he announced.

Setsuka took a deep breath and put on her game face as she stood up and walked onto the stage to stand in front of the judges. She kept her smile on as she waited for the crowd to die down, and her insecurity boiled beneath the surface. It wasn't the first time she had to preform like this in front of a crowd, but one little mistake could expel her.

"Alright, Ms. Chiebukuro. What will you be showing us this time?" the head judge asked as the others began to take notes. Last year, she managed to sink all of the pool balls into the holes with only three hits. This year had to be different.
