"Nik! Kado! Coffee's on the table!" Setsuka called to her boyfriends, wondering where in the house they had gone off to this morning. They were usually both awake before her, but unlike the usual sounds of Mikado doing chores downstairs, there was silence today. Not only that, but Mikado had disappeared and not made breakfast like he usually does.
To her relief, Nikei came down the stairs and came to take his mug with a smile. "Morning, Setsuka," he greeted, taking a sip of coffee. "The article's got a lot of progress done on it so far, it's a good day for me."
"Glad to hear, Nik!" his girlfriend giggled, picking up a piece of the leftovers in the fridge from the previous night. "Hey, do you know where Kado went?"
"Oh, he went grocery shopping. Other than the leftovers, we've got basically nothing in the fridge," Nikei explained. "He told me that he's gonna make breakfast as soon as he gets back, but he's been gone for a little while now."
"Alright, nice. I'm gonna go out and get the mail, be right back!" Setsuka slipped her boots and her coat on and went out the door, feeling the chill in the air waking her further.
As she walked outside to the mailbox, she spotted her car coming into the driveway and park itself. Mikado stepped out with a bunch of bags, and she found herself smiling as she saw him.
"Kado, you're back!" she greeted with a smile. "You need help with those bags?"
"No, I'm handling these just fine. But thank you," Mikado replied with a small nod of his head. "One of these bags has your prescription though, you asked me to pick that up for you?"
"I'll take that bag, thank you!" She hurried over to him and took the bag from him, further thanking him with a kiss on the cheek. "I'm just going to go and get the mail, and then I'll help you put the groceries away."
With those words, Mikado began to haul the bags inside, and Setsuka went to the mailbox to get their weekly mail. Today, there were a few advertisements, two letters for Nikei, a letter for her, and some coupons. She picked them all up and took them all inside the house, locking the door behind her.
To her surprise, Nikei was already helping Mikado with putting the groceries away. She decided to help them a little by sorting the mail at the table before joining in. The mail was sorted into its respective piles, and with three people working together at the fridge, all the groceries were put away quickly.
Setsuka went back to the pile and picked up Nikei's two letters. "Nik, you've got mail," she called over, and the journalist went over to investigate them.
"...Oh, one's related to work, the other wants me to promote some kind of product. I'll throw out that brand mail," he muttered, then leaned closer to hug Setsuka. She quickly kissed him on the cheek and watched his face flush red. He muttered a quick "Thanks" before he went back upstairs with his mail to continue his article.
Setsuka pocketed the coupons and threw out the advertisements, then checked out the mail that was meant for her. With Mikado beginning to cook breakfast in the kitchen, she decided to just sit down and open the letter. She expected it to just be a normal letter, but what she received was anything but ordinary.
Setsuka rarely got letters from the head management of billiards competitions, other than their occasional invitation to have her appearance promote more viewers, but this letter was more serious than others. To her shock, the management somehow found out about her prosthetic, which she did her best to keep hidden.
