A little Prodigal Son and Lost AU one-shot, cause why the hell not? I think I might write a longfic Prodigal Son and Lost crossover at some point, but for now a one-shot will do.

For crossover purposes, this is set in 2004, the year Lost is set in. So... the Prodigal Son events will all be the same, just pushed back by a considerable amount of years.

So if anyone's interested in this, enjoy!

Malcolm wakes with a headache and a throbbing pain in his left arm. Not exactly the way he would've liked to wake up, and it takes him a moment to sit up and look around at his surroundings. He's on a beach. A beach littered with debris from the plane he was on just moments ago, and the bodies of both dead and injured people.

He's been in a plane crash. Where the plane has crashed, he can't quite tell, except that it's a beach. Where this beach is located, he doesn't know.

Slowly, he gets to his feet, nearly falling over as a sharp pain shoots down his leg, but he manages to stay upright as he stumbles off towards the plane wreckage sitting further out on the beach. He'll look over how severe his injuries are later. Right now, all he's worried about is finding Dani, Gil, JT, and Edrisa. He needs to know that they're all still alive and okay.

From what he can tell, there's quite a considerable amount of survivors, and surprisingly quite a few that appear to not be too badly injured. Although, maybe it's the adrenaline from the shock of the crash that is making a lot of them appear less injured than they really are. Malcolm wouldn't be surprised if that's the case. He himself is running on adrenaline right now, despite his clear injuries that he's not entirely sure how bad they are. At the very least, his leg isn't broken, so that's a good thing. His arm on the other hand, he's not sure.

As he gets closer to the wreckage, he's surprised to find that it's only the mid section of the plane on the beach. The fuselage. Where the front of the plane and the tail section is, he's not sure. He cannot locate it anywhere on the beach. The plane must've broken apart in midair, which is a rather odd way for a plane to crash. Sure, it's possible for it to break apart once it hits the ground, he guesses, but while still in the air? He's not entirely sure if that's possible. Then again, he's not at all knowledgeable when it comes to planes.

He finds Gil first, or rather Gil finds him, pulling him into a tight hug and giving him a once over to make sure if he's okay. He's mostly okay, but as soon as they find the rest of the team, he'll start worrying about himself.

"I'm okay." Malcolm says. "Well... mostly." He corrects as Gil gives him a look. "Have you found the others yet?"

"I found Edrisa." Gil says. "She's okay. I sent her off to look for JT and Dani."

Malcolm nods, glad to hear that Edrisa is okay. Now all he needs to worry about is if JT and Dani are okay, and if they're both even still alive.

He looks Gil over, glad to find that except for a few cuts and a nasty looking scrape on the side of his head, the man appears to be okay. In any case, he looks to be in much better shape than he himself is.

The two of them don't stay standing in one place for too much longer before they're walking through the wreckage searching for JT and Dani, and meeting up with Edrisa.

Eventually, they come across Edrisa as she's struggling to walk up the beach away from the wreckage with a barely conscious JT leaning on her for support as he limps beside her. Which causes Gil to break away from Malcolm to help Edrisa, taking most of JT's weight himself before Edrisa hurts herself.

"I couldn't find Dani." Edrisa says, once they reach the top of the beach at the edge of the trees, and they have JT sitting and leaning against one of the trees for support.

Malcolm looks around out towards where the fuselage is sitting out on the beach, hoping to spot Dani amongst the other passengers, whether it be one of the injured on the sand, one of the ones standing around helping others, or god forbid, one of the dead. Unfortunately, he doesn't spot her anywhere.

Maybe she's further down the beach helping others get to safety? He doesn't want to think about the possibility that she might be dead. That she ended up in the front of the plane or the tail section. If she had ended up there... he doesn't want to think about what her fate might be.

"Stay with JT." Malcolm says, turning to Gil and Edrisa who're both kneeling on the sand on either side of JT, looking him over and trying to suss out just how bad his injuries are. "I'm going to look for Dani."

Without waiting for either of them to protest, he's making his way back towards the wreckage in search of his best friend.

He needs to find her. He has to find her still alive and okay. If she's gone... if he ends up finding her lifeless body buried under the wreckage.... He doesn't even want to think about that. He refuses to give up hope that he's going to find her alive and okay, if a little injured. She has to still be alive. She just has to.

Malcolm's not sure how many hours have passed since the crash when he finds himself seated around the small fire that Gil had made for them a little away from the rest of the survivors as soon as it had started to get dark.

He couldn't find Dani anywhere, and he feels like he has failed her. He couldn't even find a body, so if she's dead, they don't even have anything to bury or take back home with them once rescue arrives. She must've somehow ended up on either the front or the tail section of the plane, and if that's the case, then it's very likely that they've lost her. Either way they've lost her, and Malcolm isn't okay.

Forget his injuries, which thankfully aren't as bad as he feared, nothing's broken, but he's been instructed by one of the other survivors, Jack Shepherd who just so happens to be a doctor, to take it easy for now and rest. Losing Dani hurts so much worse than any injury he could've possibly sustained.

He barely moves as Gil wraps a blanket around him and sits on the log next to him, just continues to stare into the fire, wishing, and praying to a god that he doesn't believe in for his best friend back. That Dani will come waltzing out of the jungle with only a few scrapes and bruises back to them all alive and okay.

Because while he still thankfully has Gil, Edrisa, and JT - who may not even make it unless rescue comes - it's just not the same without Dani. Not when he doesn't know where his best friend is and if she's even still alive and okay....

Elsewhere on the other side of the island, Dani sits around the fire with the survivors of the tail section of the plane. She feels alone. Malcolm, Gil, JT, and Edrisa all aren't here with her, and she feels alone, and afraid.

She doesn't know if her friends are even still alive, or where the hell they are. She had searched the beach and the water up and down multiple times, but she couldn't find any of them. Not one of them. She's completely alone, even though there are twenty two other people who survived alongside her.

If only she hadn't gotten up to use the plane's restroom mere moments before the plane split apart in the air and crashed, then just maybe she'd be with her friends, even if they had all perished, at least they would've all died together. And that sure as hell beats being alone without any of them.
