Summary: An air of nostalgia passes by the Burrow, causing Fred to give his daughter a little trip down memory lane
(Fred's POV)
Nostalgia can be a fickle friend. It could make you yearn for the "good old times". Or it could have you think of all the memories and make you heave a sigh because time was going too fast for your liking. That's what I thought while I looked out the window of my childhood home, the autumn breeze gently rustling the already fading leaves.
A small coo came from my arms, causing me to look down at my daughter. A small patch of ginger hair gave her the trademark of a Weasley. She looked up at me and her small smile was more than enough to melt my heart.
"Do you want me to carry her for you Freddie?" My wife asked, momentarily pausing her conversation with Ginny and Hermione.
I shook my head, "I'm fine. Honestly woman, don't you trust me with our own daughter?"
I took the baby outside to the backyard, "You know princess, this is the spot where I asked your mother to be my girlfriend. I never really thought that she would say 'yes' to going out with an idiot like me. But, she did and here we are - years later - happily married and with you, our daughter."The sky tucked the ground in a white blanket of snow. The chill in the air adding to the holiday spirit.
"Freddie, what are we doing out here?" She asked, a light pink tint painting her cheeks due to the cold.
I ran a hand through my hair, "I just wanted to ask you something."
She giggled, "What's so important that you have to bring me here instead of just asking me?"
I bit my lip, avoiding her gaze, "It would be the best Christmas present I will ever receive, if you agree to be mine."
"Are you asking me to be your girlfriend?" She asked with a small smile.
I nodded, "Yeah."
"So, I think you've just received the best Christmas present ever."
"So, you're-"
"Yes Fred! I will be your girlfriend."
I then walked farther away from the Burrow and deeper into the backyard until I reached a tree that I hadn't seen in a very long time.
I smiled, whispering to the two-month-old in my arms, "This is the treehouse that grandpa built for your Uncle Bill and Uncle Charlie. Then, once they've gone to Hogwarts, Uncle Percy made use of this as his private reading book. Once he went, your Uncle Georgie and I came to either hide from your grandma's rage or plan pranks where nobody could hear us. Even during the summer break, we would always come back here, even brought your mum here a couple of times."
I chuckled at the memory before continuing:
"Your Uncle Ron never had the guts to come up here, always scared about the spiders. Aunt Ginny didn't use this for tea parties like mum had expected. But she would always hide here whenever we played hide and seek.""Ginny! Oh my gosh George! We haven't found her yet and it has been an hour." I said,
running around the backyard in search of our little sister."Mum is going to kill us." George said.
"Don't you think I know that?" I said.
Then, as if the heavens were smiling down at me and my brother, I heard the voice that I needed to hear.
"I'm up here you idiots."
I sighed, "And when you grow up, I hope that you'll love it as much as we did."
I then brought my daughter back inside before Y/N could tell us off about the chill.
Hearing the faint conversation of the girls in the living room, I then decided to bring April upstairs, but a certain memory caused me to stop at the foot of the staircase.
My daughter looked up at me with bright, adoring eyes as she gave a small string of coos and babbles. As if she was asking me what I was thinking about.
I sighed, "This is the spot where I asked your mum to marry me, under the mistletoe."
"Look up." I said.
Y/N giggled, "Freddie, you don't have to put me under the mistletoe just to kiss me. All you have to do is ask."
I rolled my eyes at her, "Just kiss me already."
After pressing a brief kiss to my lips, she turned to leave but I pulled her back."Fred," She said, "I really have to help your mum in the kitchen. You can kiss me as much as you want later."
"After you answer the question." I bargained.
She rolled her eyes, "Fine. What is it?"I took out a small box from my pocket and opened it to reveal a ring, "Will you marry me?"
I then trudged up the stairs until I reached the top, facing a small window that led to the rooftop.
"Whenever your Aunt Ginny and I couldn't sleep, we would come up and stargaze." I explained.
"Couldn't sleep?" Ginny's voice pulled me out of my train of thought.
I nodded, "Yeah."
She sat down beside me, resting her head on my shoulder, "The stars are beautiful tonight."
"They always are." I said, "It seems like yesterday you were just a baby."
"I could kick your arse if you want."
"I know."
"There you two are." Y/N said, appearing by my side, "Already gave her a tour of the house?"
I nodded, "And a little one down memory lane."
She then took April from my arms, "C'mere love, daddy must be tired from carrying you around all day."
The baby looked up at her mother with a pout as she started babbling baby nonsense, obviously telling her own mother off.
Y/N playfully rolled her eyes, handing me back the baby, "Okay. I get it. You're daddy's girl."
Then she crossed her arms over her chest and muttered, "I used to be daddy's girl."
I chuckled, pressing a kiss to her temple, "Who says the two of you can't be my girls?"
She giggled, "I guess I can share."
