shay walks into the living room with her luggage after nicely packed. it was a sight he dreaded to see. karl pouts and starts, but she cuts him off, "nope. i am not ready to say bye." he takes her hand to pull her closer.

"notice anything special?" she smiles, she's wearing karls knit sweater he gave to her. karls face turns another shade darker for red.

"goddamnit, it looks better on you."

she laughs, "i'm going to miss you, karl."

"nope, we aren't doing this." he looks away, "why can't you just move in?" he whines.

"what?" shay ruffles here eye brows. "you want me to move in?"

although it came from a joke, karl debates. "yeah. i mean i have the rooms, for you and jake. what's keeping you in dc anyways?"

"karl," she sighs, "how are we going to make that work"

"im kidding." he covers even though somewhere in him he kind of wanted her to go along. "you are so beautiful"

"no you!" she says before having to tend to her brother. "we have to go soon if we want to get past security without stress,"

karl drives the two to the airport, once again it felt more and more real. "come here," shay whispers and for one last time she pulls the man into a hug. savoring the last bit of comfort and warm from each other they could. "i love you karl." karl hugs back tightly.

"i love you more than anything, shay." karl mumbles as to ho control he tears up. it felt like he just got her back. "im sorry, im getting tears all over the sweater." he sniffles.

karl's hugs were where she wanted to stay for a lifetime. they never failed to make her feel like everything was going to be okay. and in this moment everything was okay. "okay," she whispers pulling away from him. shay takes her thumb and wipe his tears from his face. "stop don't make me cry too," she steps and kisses his lips sweetly. his arms again wrapping around her waist pulling her closer.

"KARLLL!!" jakes voice cries. karl pulls away and then shares his hug with the boy. "I AM GOING TO MISS YOU BIG K"

"i'm gonna miss you big j," karl says.
