Friends Again.
The word trust might be just a small word but it weighs a lot when it is broken. Trust is like glass once broken it can never be the same as it was.
Jason was pleased to be Layla's partner but he hoped that she will forgive him for what he said. But when Naeem learned about it. He had a lot of things to say to him.
"Sorry but she is the most stubborn human being. More stubborn than dad. I will just tell you to take it slow or she won't ever talk to you. Besides I know my twin, she doesn't like holding grudges so she might talk to you. Good luck, bro", Naeem tells him.
Layla was waiting for him at his locker wanting to know where they will meet to do the project. As Jason was approaching her, Sam stood in front of her.
"Layla, I just wanted to apologize for what happened and for what I said and did to you", Sam tells her.
Not everything is as it seems.
"I already told you that I had forgiven you. Now you can leave if you don't mind", Layla tells him.
Sam left but with one motive in his mind. To make her pay for the humiliation he faced when the other students heard what she did.
"Hey, where do you want us to do the project? I don't want to fail this class", Layla tells Jason when she saw him standing where Sam was.
"We can do it at your place if that's okay with you?", he asks her.
"Yes, it is fine. After school", she tells him walking away to get to the cafeteria for her lunch and then to pray as she usually does.
Instead of walking away in a different direction, Jason began to follow her.
Naeem didn't find a hard time fitting in with the other students. But he knew that the bullying will not stop even if Layla stood up for herself.
"What are you doing?", Layla asks Jason who was walking beside her.
"Walking towards the cafeteria to get some lunch", Jason tells her mischievously knowing that he was going to sit next to her as he used to.
Layla just shook her head and continued walking toward her table and then she sat down.
She opened the lunch that her mother had packed for her. As she was about to take a bite, Jason and her brother sat beside her.
"Don't you guys have better things to do?", she asks them as she was eating.
"I have nothing and what about you?", Naeem asks Jason who shook his head.
"No, nothing".
"Then let me eat in peace, and when I mean in peace I don't mean you two giving each other eye signals".
"Okay, am leaving because I have to be somewhere. Stay safe and call me when you need me", Naeem tells his sister.
"Bye, don't come back", she replied to him.
The brother and sister were always teasing each other. Jason wanted a relationship like theirs but knew what his father is like. He is grateful that he doesn't have a sibling to witness what his father does to his mother.
"Jason, what is the matter?", Layla asks him because his mind seems far.
"Nothing is wrong".
"Right, sorry I don't want to be nosy...."
"Layla stop. I should be the one to say sorry for what I did and said. What is happening in my life it isn't your fault. It has nothing to do with you. I am sorry that I said that. You mean a lot to me", Jason interrupted her.
"Okay, but you don't need to shut me out. If you want you can tell me or not that's your choice", she tells him while putting her things away.
"You should eat something. Here this is for you", Layla hands him a wrapped sandwich. "Don't tell Naeem but it is for him from mom".
Jason was about to refuse when Layla gave him one look that he knew very well.
"Good now, will you excuse me I have to go and pray", she tells him.
At least she is willing to be my friend again. But what if she gets to know about the things I have been hiding? I can't lose them.
Friends come and go but those who stay with you through thick and thin are what you need in your life.
