Le Huan paused as if contemplating before pressing his two fingers for the second time on his unbandaged wrist to reconfirm the rhythm of his pulse. Le Huan's face became solemn and unconsciously pursing his lips, there's no mistaking it, it's a happy pulse. Even though it's faint as if faltering, not the same as the other pregnant people whose pulse would be vigorous and skipping, Le Huan believes his evaluation. This faint pulse, even it's there and can confirm the fetus is still holding on and barely alive doesn't mean it would survive on its own. This must be the reason why the Imperial Physician had diagnosed that the child has been aborted and gone, thus angering the Emperor. Though Le Huan felt stunned he never doubt his own skills and judgement thus rational took over him but despite that became agitated.

"Meilin!" he yelled full of vigor and urgency, what they're against now is time, the fetus must be stabilized as soon as it can.

Meilin came quickly running into the room

"Do you believe that I took the abortion soup?" he asked solemnly while looking at the youth intently, observing his every bits of reaction.

"No miss." Meilin said unhesitatingly and firmly before continuing
"the truth was, you couldn't bear to look at the soup. So whenever it was served along with the other dishes, you threw it away or you threw a fit saying it was awful."

Le Huan tried to get up once more but before he can, he stumbled and almost fell but Meilin caught him on time. Given with his stature, the kid is surprisingly strong.

"Miss you must get some rest you're not well enough yet" Meilin said, anxiousness and worry apparent on his voice.

"Meilin, listen to this mistress of yours, find a way where we can find some herbs. The fetus is still not dead." Le Huan held and gripped the youth's hand as if afraid the youth won't believe him.

"Miss what do you mean? Miss the Imperial Physician said the fetu-" Meilin can't continue his words, afraid he might hurt his mistress' feelings and could only bit his lip and looked down on dismay.

"The Imperial Physician is wrong Meilin, the fetus will die if nothing is done. I must get some herbs."

"But you can barely move miss. Won't it pose as more of a threat and harm your body?" Meilin asked, giving in as it was his mistress's command.

Meilin was right, Le Huan sat back down dejectedly.

But then he thought of something, It may be risky and dangerous due to their conditions, he still had no choice but let Meilin find a way out to sneak out of the palace so he can collect the specific herbs. It may be selfish but they had to do something, the fetus inside him is trying hard to live and hold.

"Meilin, please I'm going to give you some information and you must collect those items, you must find a way out but safely return do you understand?" Le Huan orders "lots of these herbs do you hear me?"

"Yes miss" Meilin nodded affirmly.

"Use all the dowry if you must, but you must get all the items."

"Yes miss, don't worry you can trust this task to your servant." Meilin said reassuringly before
he quickly hurried out of the room without any further delay and then silence filled the air.

'Hold on little fetus, your true mother might not be here but I am.' Le Huan murmured to himself.

Le Huan was a modern-day genius pharmacist he was praised by many either from the same industry as he is or with common people, his name was known. He invented many new medicines and cures, he studied both ancient and modern medicine, he craved an extensive knowledge, though he could beat anything, time wasn't one of them. The little fetus was impressive to hold for so long without proper care the stress and pain Na Juan felt must have been enough to kill him even the blood loss, but this little one was tough, this made Le Huan glad about studying about obstetrics and infants cause if he didn't all he could do was wait on the little one to die.

After getting enough energy Le Huan got up and looked into the mirror and saw a reflection of a beautiful deity. Beautiful indeed, the emperor must have been too mad to throw him away like that, he didn't look much older than Meilin they must be the same age. Pregnant at such a young age, ancient times are really cradle robbers or might be similar to a dung of a cow beside a flower situation*.
(E: a phrase that meant something so beautiful got tainted and corrupted by something ugly.)

Le Huan staggered his way trying to find the kitchen, after a while he finally did, that took a lot of energy out of him. Imagine if he had a big tummy, he'd probably would lose the baby at that point. He light the wood fire which was hard at first but fortunately all the necessary stuffs are here, the tonic he'd be making requires hot water. He find some oranges to suck on in the meantime as the water boil, he leaned on the table with one hand holding up his face looking around, this place really deserves its name, before he came into this body he lived in a villa alone even though he had asked his sister to live with him she chose to stay in a mundane life with her husband and child. He told his sister that all of them could live with him but she rejected the offer so he didn't really ask her again, he was already content with the fact that Le Huan cured her infertility problems.

"I wonder if Meilin is okay" Le Huan heaved a big sigh, even though he's immersed with his own thoughts he can't stop worrying about that kid.

Meilin was young, he could be easily target by unkind people. Maybe it wasn't a good idea to send him out, though in ancient Chinese history consorts weren't allowed to leave home without the husband's permission so if he was the one who left it could mean big trouble for him even if he was a man, even bigger trouble for the fetus in his stomach.
Le Huan gnashed his teeth in frustration and worry, why were men are such bastards to their spouses in ancient times? If the spouses wanted to leave then let them leave, so afraid they might wear a green hat?
(E: green hat: to be cheated on.)
