Meilin quickly hurried back. He went to the Miss' room but he was not there. He ran to the kitchen and found him. "Miss, I'm back. I'm sorry for taking so long. I didn't know the herbs so I had an herbalist help me gather them. They were surprisingly cheap and easy to find."

Le Huan nodded his head as he saw a sack filled with ingredients 'Of course they were cheap' he thought, 'they were fairly simple ingredients but they had great potential that not many knew about'. He took out a measured amount and added them to the pot.

"Meilin keep stirring and don't stop until I tell you to" he said in a calm manner.

'The tonic will take about three and a half hours to make. The aroma it will release will also help the baby' he thought. He added each ingredient in slowly as Meilin stirred the mixture, watching it closely. He fixed the fire wood. He had to be careful because he knew that while the ingredients were rather simple, the tonic was not and could easily become poisonous if not handled with care and precision. He was an expert at making it, considering he had created the tonic to help with weak fetuses.

After four hours of hard work, he and Meilin were able to take the tonic away from the fire and store it in a bottle for later. Afterward, Meilin and Le Huan were resting and Le Huan felt as though his wrist was going to fall right off because of the pain.

"I'm going to rest and you should too. I'll have some of the tonic when I wake up" He said to Meilin. Meilin nodded and Le Huan went back to his room to sleep.

He woke up early the next morning to see Meilin had already prepared his breakfast. It was simple. Some plain rice and a modest tea along with the tonic. For an Imperial Concubine of the Emperor, his life wasn't far from that of a simple pauper. He didn't complain though. He took the rice and began eating.

"Miss, I'm sorry for the insufficient meal but-" Meilin began but was cut off.

"I know that along with demotion comes a decrease in allowance, not to mention the abandonment. It was lucky they remembered me at all." Le Huan interjected, seemingly indifferent.

Hearing his Miss speak like this didn't put Meilin's feelings at ease. His Miss' temperament had changed dramatically. Now his Miss was calm, quiet, understanding, and indifferent. Delusional at times, believing that the child was still there. Maybe when the Miss sees that the child has made no development she will understand that the child is gone.

"I'm sorry Miss" he said

"What's there to be sorry about when I've got a plan? One that will require your help in time." Le Huan said.

"Me, Miss?" Meilin asked, puzzled.

"Yes you. Do you have any scars?" He asked out of the blue.

Meilin nodded and rolled up his sleeve to show the scar.

"Perfect. You are going to be my guinea pig." Le Huan said.

"Miss?" he asked, confused as to what she meant by this.

"After breakfast you and I are going to make rouge." Le Huan replied.

Meilin was shocked. He didn't think his mistress could make such a thing. He examined him as he took a sip of the tonic. Ever since he woke up, he had been acting strangely. Even before the pregnancy he was very expressive but now he is so calm and docile. Since losing her memory he has been a completely different person. Not once had he asked about the Emperor nor his family, nor did he throw a fit or get angry or sad. All he cared about was the baby who wasn't even alive. His Miss was so pitiful. Meilin was sure that he was in denial about everything and this was how he was grieving. How can one be expected to cope with the loss of your child resulting in being abandoned by their husband. It's enough to drive any perfectly sane person mad. Meilin just could not figure out what was running through that mind of his.

'This is really bitter. I should put something in it to improve the taste.'
