Pete's Supermarket, Westbane
Their giggles and murmurs could be heard around the closed supermarket, as they stole the little they could. Well Lucy wouldn't say they were stealing, because she planned on dropping a heavy tip with Pete, the owner of the supermarket, by the time it was morning. She and her friends, Nelson, Anna, Trish and Josh, popularly known in Westbane high as "The Circle", were only messing around like they usually did after a party at Jacobs', rattled by the amount of people that were there for a small town high school party.
They were only having fun, as far as they were concerned, although it was late, a few minutes past two, and Lucy was more than tired. Her boyfriend, Josh had convinced her to tag along, saying something about him taking the fall if something were to go terribly wrong.
Since she loved and trusted him, she decided to tag along, making that mental note to pay for everything they stole.
"Okay, I have to admit, this is one of the best nights I have had in weeks." Trish said with a sly grin.
"I second that." Nelson tried to speak while munching on a bag of chips.
Lucy rolled her eyes. "It's almost three guys, we've been here since like 1 pm."
"Live a little, Macman." Nelson teased, earning an eye roll from Lucy.
"I'm only worried someone's gonna walk in any second from now."
"Dude, it's three in the damn night, even the sheriff is snoring the night away." Trish responded, sounding bored, her eyes perusing the shelf in search of anything that might be of interest to her.
Anna smiled at Lucy. "I'm tired guys, I think we should head out. We don't want to empty Pete's store."
Lucy appreciated the support.
"Okay," Josh said as he stood up from his crouched position. "I'll go around back to the toy area to pick up something for little Louie, then we'll head out, that good?" he asked Lucy.
"Yeah, sure." She smiled at him as he rounded the corner, away from view.
Lucy sighed, looking out the window into the dark starless night.
She had always hated the way the town looked completely different at night... Some nights, the town seemed like it would always be alive, but other nights... it was almost as if the town was completely dead, and there was something lurking in those dark cold shadows.
It was just a feeling she couldn't shake, especially ever since Brody Huffins death, which seemed to shove reality back at their faces.
She could still remember the one-minute silence they had given at the party before it went on in full swing.
"You okay?" Anna asked, coming to stand beside her.
"Yeah, I'm fine... just tired, like you."
"I know right, it was a crazy party... poor Mikaela, she cried through half of it."
"Why wouldn't she, Brody used to be the life of the party... at least during the few she would attend."
Anna nodded. "Yeah, that's right. I wonder how she convinced her parents to let her come? I mean... knowing the Volenbards, they are really strict... especially after what happened with her and Brody."
"Maybe she sneaked out." Lucy offered.
"Sneaked out? From that huge weird house?"
Lucy chuckled. "It does look haunted."
